Pettersson vs Matthews going forward.

Which of these two young players would you take going forward and why? Personally I am not sure who's going to be better but I feel Pettersson has more room to grow as he is still built like a child.. However Matthews is probably going to be the better scorer of the two during their careers which is Somethhg I value as I personally feel assists and esp secondary assists etc is pretty easy to come by in comparison to scoring goals.

One of those polls that will probably go back and forth depending who is hot. EP is currently tied for 6th in points and has played a couple of less games so he currently has the hot hand.
But two completely different players. Matthews is one of the best pure goal scorers while EP is one of the best playmakers who can score as well but not like Matthews.
I picked EP because I love his compete level both offensively and defensively. Matthews has the ability to do that as well and probably will but he still needs to show it more consistently imo.

Two years ago there’s no way I could have imagined myself voting Pettersson but I’ve watched enough of both to make an accurate assessment at this point and I’d take Pettersson.

I guess when you go through 3 years of Leafs fans shoving down everyones throat how great Matthews is compared to every other player, this is the result.

Both look to be comparable in the goal scoring department but Pettersson's vision and IQ is far superior to Matthews'. I don't see Matthews ever becoming anywhere near as effective a playmaker.

I feel scoring goals is harder than making assists, wich is Matthews chefdepartment, thans to better shot and strength. Pettersson wins it in all other categories. Its a flip of what you like with a player. I like Pettersson more, just because he just a player you follow immideatly he is on the ice, because something will happen, but that is not something you judging a players talent after. But. Pettersson.

I got AM by a little bit still. Both players have areas of their games that could improve. It seems like EP is improving at a faster pace but this will be an interesting comp. to watch over the next few years.

On a serious note. Pettersson is elite offensive talent. This is a wash. But im taking Matthews.

I don't watch enough of the Leafs to even answer this question adequately tbh, all I'll say is Elias is a truly special player, who I think has the ability and mentality to become one of the greatest players in franchise history, he's an elite playmaker with a wicked shot and he plays an excellent defensive game too, one of the smartest players I've ever seen
