So Hutch is gonna be the back up for the next 4 weeks? Wtf. Why do they have no good goalie prospects? Is t it Dubas job to make sure we have good goaltending prospects?

traded for one last season, then didnt resign him... no idea what he's thinking in the goalie dept ...unless hutch has some pictures stashed away.
they signed Källgren who has okay numbers, but, i havent watched a marlies game this year, so i cant judge? ...they also have some 6'6" guy i cant remember the name, but, far from ready, and a long shot i'd think to be anything, but, i'd take a long shot over Hutch

This is the path Leafs goalies take now to become elite no.1s :sarcasm:

2020: Maple Leafs goalie Jack Campbell out 'weeks' with leg injury

Johnny Boychuk just got moved for futures

Boychuk will never play a game again and BUF needed to reach the cap floor (extenuating circumstances) while Andrew Ladd was basically out of the league for 2 years because he wanted to play but his contract is an albatross. If the player wants to play and has a contract they'll play whether it be in the minors or NHL

Honestly, we are now living and dying with Campbell….

We sure seem to be cursed at the 1B/ backup goaltender position the past 2-3 years.

Really nervous where we are right now to be honest….. :(

Wish I could give this two likes. People live in the past for too long.
McElhinney had a good stretch of games for us, Management let him go. it sucked but he isnt coming back. Some of these guys gotta get with the times.

only a matter of time till the guy wants Belfour or Potvin back

Prospects aren't meant to be 3rd string goalies. Hutch is around as an insurance policy in case of injuries so that the young guys can continue to play consistent minutes in the AHL/ECHL. Woll is up for pay reasons exclusively. Once the team travels you can bet that Hutch will be with the team. He's about as good as a 3rd goalie (borderline NHLer) gets.

The issue of our goaltending prospects is a completely different issue all together. We would have a guy like Hutchinson regardless of that, unless we had a super-prospect like a Spencer Knight/Carter Hart in the organization.

I never understood signing an injury riddled backup to any kind of mid term deal .. 750K to 1.5M max for your backup .. another mistake by Dubie on this one .. too many mgmt errors
Go find a not injury riddled goalie.....who is any good.

More unnecessary whining for NO reason. You need a goalie who could carry the mail if Campbell wasn't real.

Absolutely stupid thinking to sign a true backup going into this season. Thankfully, Dubas is a hell of a lot smarter than most on here.

Mrazek is gonna be hard to move. And we really need his 3.8mil for keeping Soup around. Sad that this early on in the contract/season, he already seems like a bad contract.
Woll backing up tonight I guess. Wouldn't mind seeing him get his first game in one of the back to back games Fri/Sat

Mrazek is a 3.8M cap hit for another 2 seasons after this one. And it's already looking like a dead weight contract.

The leafs will have to do some cap-gymnastics if they have to sign Campbell to a big contract

The leafs haven't had a good goalie prospect since Potvin, that's embarassing that in 30 years, we only have had 1 good goalie to show for it... and no I won't even count Reimer. Yes and no about Dubas- His job is to acquire picks sure, and more importantly KEEP them(emphasis on keep), but it's the scouting team to snuff out prospects, and then the developing coaches to properly guide the prospects to the NHL.

You don't pay that kinda CAP $$$ to an injury riddled tender for 3 years .. you give him a 1 year deal and see what you got

We did - you forgot Tuuka Rask

I don't know why anyone is surprised, especially Dubas.

He keeps signing guys expecting their history to conveniently change when they play for his team. It should be no surprise when fat, lazy Ritchie is fat and lazy or when guys like Mrazek who can't stay in the lineup, can't stay in the lineup.

^Someone release user makbeer from the hot take oven. Thanks.

how in the world is that a deadweight contract. He pulled his groin.

2 x 3.8 is Thomas gries money

SIMMONS: Gamble on Mrazek paying no dividends for Maple Leafs | Toronto Sun

The Maple Leafs are paying now — and might be paying later — for the foolish reach they made on signing Petr Mrazek for three years and $11.4 million in the off-season.
Really, they should have known better. They should have done more homework on the goaltender. They should have understood why Carolina didn’t want him back, which was for similar reasons the Leafs soured on Frederik Andersen.

This will go over well.

The original signing thread. More than a few comments spot on regarding injury.
Confirmed with Link: - TOR sign G Petr Mrazek to 3 year deal, 3.8M AAV
