Was mentioned on the Import threat and 2008 born Latvian forward Olivers Murnieks could be an intriguing option at the import draft. Was on Team Latvia at the most recent World Juniors as a 16 year old. Currently playing for the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL. A 6'1 and 190lbs Centre. This is the type of upside we should be aiming for.

The NCAA route isn't a lockout now but still have to be cautious with picking players already in the ushl I think. I know during the season they were asking exorbitant release fees, would they still apply for off season? Hosting Prospects game may be a draw but may not be as simple on the operational side of things. The same things obviously apply to Hage but he's already been drafted so that pick is already gone regardless, don't need the import pick possibly going to waste.

The draw of the USHL has gone down significantly.

That’s why you are seeing a mass exodus to the CHL. It will only grow this offseason. CHL is a superior league to the USHL and it isn’t even close.

Now that you can play NCAA after playing in the CHL… the “threat” of not reporting and going to USHL instead… doesn’t really carry any weight IMO.

I'm looking forward to the game tomorrow. Windsor has 2 players that should hit the 100 point mark during the game. And the Petes usually up their game against the top teams. I'd like to see Rye in net. Bowen has been excellent, but if Rye is the guy going forward, give him the game against a top 3 team in the league. The more experience he gets, the better. Knowing Wilson, it'll be Bowen.

Let's assume that Adam Novotny does report to the Petes next year; the idea of playing top 6 minutes in the OHL in his draft year and taking part in the Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game in Peterborough rather than playing 4th line minutes in the top league in Czechia has to be appealing.

Adam Novotný (LW/RW) (LH) 6'1" 198 lbs (2007 - late birthday)

The Petes need to strike gold with their import pick so they need a player that will report.
A couple guys mentioned by @Section5Petes : Olivers Murnieks and Novotny's buddy, Adam Benak, look like great picks. Murnieks is a 2008 while Benak is a 2007 who is projected to go in the 2nd round of the NHL draft this June.

Adam Benák (C) (LH) 5'7" 161lbs (2007)

Adam Benák - Stats, Contract, Salary & More
Benak is not as big as Novotny so a decent chance he is with the Petes for 2 years even if he's drafted.

The Petes could go a safer route and use their connections with RB Academy (Purdeller and Kaiser) and/or with Germany (Kaiser and Liam Kirk played on same team in top German league at start of this season).

Here are some possibilities.....

Dustin Willhöft (Forward) (LH) 5'8" 132lbs (2007)

Dustin Willhöft - Stats, Contract, Salary & More
I know, I know....he's not a big guy. The kid is dynamic offensively - 91 points in 35 games in U20 league in Germany. Diehard Petes' fans will remember Lino Martschini who was about the same size and put up about a PPG over two seasons with the Petes.

Leon Kolarik (Forward) (LH) 5'11" 170lbs (2007 late birthday)

Leon Kolarik - Stats, Contract, Salary & More
He played at RB Academy and was on Austria's D1A WJC team this year as a 17 year old.

Vyacheslav Permitin (C/LW) (LH) 6'1" 172lbs (2008)

Vyacheslav Permitin - Stats, Contract, Salary & More
He is playing in U20 league in Austria.

Tobias Krestan (C/RW) (LH) 6'1" 181lbs (2008)

Tobias Krestan - Stats, Contract, Salary & More
He is playing in the U18 league in Sweden but he played at the RB Academy and, as a German/Czechian, he may be a good fit with Novotny.

Benak just makes so much sense. He would drastically improve this teams ability to score goals and run a PP.

Well, did not expect to see 27 listed in the lineup any time soon. Extra player listed so may not be playing, just warm up but still.

Bowen starting... EE64A4FD-7D3E-4190-B46A-FC2178AF8592.jpeg
