Rumor: Peter Chiarelli to the Canucks (now corroborated by Pierre LeBrun)

If Linden is Jim (sympathetic audience surrogate) then he only grew into him in the final weeks of his tenure. For most of his time Linden was pretty much an apologist for the incompetence he had put in place while being out of his depth in his own right, which might make him... season 4 Ryan, I guess?

Weisbrod I think is halfway between Dwight and Todd Packer.

Gradin would be Pam, just staring in the camera in helpless disgust at the actions of everyone around them.

I think that is fair to say as well.

Which is why it makes sense not to make assumptions and then double down on those assumptions with straw men arguments, and then triple down with the insults. We can talk about projection another day.

i apologize for mistaking the intention of your original post in this exchange as being to protect and defend ms. you are clearly not the stubborn thin skinned prickly individual with an axe to grind wading in to defend his online friend that i initially mistook you for. my apologies also for all the double-downing and triple-downing i managed to squeeze into that single post that has obviously really upset you. i will try to do better.

Well now that we've started down this path... hahah

The Linden-Jim parallel for me is that Jim was for the first few seasons the foil to Michael Scott in many ways (pranks, general apathy, etc.) with a lot of goodwill towards him only to gradually become more and more like Michael over time, all while maintaining the audience sympathy. That, and the underlying smug attitude. You just know Weisbrod (brilliant comparison btw) dropped one of these at some point:

the office scenario was the boston seguin videos

sorry, i was talking about the seguin video, in which i see chiarelli as michael scott.

i think the canucks management is more of a parks and recreation situation with aquilini as ron swanson.

Hmm. Who is our Leslie Knope? I don't see it. Maybe Benning as Jerry.

Linden is more like Gabe. Was just thinking Weisbrod is like Packer. Benning is Creed. Crazy old man. No one knows what he does.

Linden definitely became a bit of a Gabe near the end. Ron Delorme is Creed. Stan Smyl is Stanley. Could probably keep going but I'll stop there lol.

Nah one more: Mike Gillis = Idris Elba :sarcasm:

Not upset, it's just a forum. When people pull that stuff, it reflects more on themselves. Anyway, quintupling down is good too.

I don't want to add Chiarelli as an AGM after his work in Edmonton but if Chiarelli is looking for work, Benning should be offering him one if he can. That's how life works. There has to be something that Chiarelli can add to an NHL team. But it's always an awkward position when your former boss becomes your assistant/employee. I hope Chiarelli goes elsewhere.

Please name something because I can't think of anything. Possibly the the worst GM of all time.

This is how you get the 2006-2019 Oilers. This exact thinking right here. Like seriously, if you can look at Chiarelli's body of work in Edmonton and think that in any way, shape or form Benning should hire him to do anything other than cleaning toilets then I just don't know what to tell you. If you even remotely care about the Canucks being a good team then hiring Chiarelli in any kind of managerial capacity should instantly be a complete and total hard no.

Larsson >>>> Hall.

'oof..

Jimbo is Kevin
Weisbrod is Dwight
Linden was/is Jim (there's a Ryan Johnson argument to be made here too)
Frankie is Michael Scott

Chia strikes me more as a David Wallace type. Not the brightest, but not really a moron; he just anchored himself to idiots for way too long.

anyways, carry on
Dwight was good at his job.

Weisbrod is absolutely Todd Packer.

"Hey Jim me and the guys are getting the band back together!"|

"Ah schucks Pete! I'd love to buy I said I'd help the Canucks awhile! They need me!"

"Tell ya what draft first and see how that goes and I'll wait out the weekend. (Insert other NHL or AHL or CHL or Peewee for all I care team) said I could make my best friend AGM. It'll be like old times! Heck Milan said he'd be coming by!"

I hope that is the scenario.

Not Jim putting in a good word for Pete so he can be his supervisor at the lemonade stand.

Is it because these guys are old and childlike in intelligence that I picture them speaking like Leave it to Beaver characters?
