After 3 games and almost 185 minutes in AHL, he has pretty amazing numbers -

Only 1 goal from 58 shots, 1 shootout, GAA 00.32, 98,3 %.

Now im asking, if the Kings want to give him a chance in NHL, must he go through waiver ? Or can he go direct to first team?

To call him up he does not need waivers. There is no more re-entry waivers.

Since he has already cleared waivers he also has 30 days on NHL roster or 10 games played (whichever comes first) before he needs to clear waivers again. So say Quick goes out the Kings can keep him on the roster for 29 days or 9 games and then send him back to Ontario without clearing waivers again.

That being said Budaj is still the #4 goalie in the Kings system. Despite the start he is still behind Bartosak, IMO, who will easily take the starting spot from Budaj when he gets healthy.

Good on Budaj for rebounding though as he was terrible last year. Goalies are a funny thing. Hope this helps him get one more NHL gig, he'd always been a good backup.

All these goalie agents better be sending DL f***ing gift baskets.

As with any goalie it has a lot to do with the team in front of him. Lets not forget the regin is the defending ahl champs for the most part.

For sure, you'll never see me argue against that, especially for a goalie like Budaj who isn't a show stealer. He looks better on the Reign than he is and he looked worse on St. John's than he is. Just pointing out that the guy had NINETEEN starts and zero wins to show for it on a team that won 32 games and an .888 save percentage to go with it last year. So he isn't even necessarily a great AHL goalie is all.

we have seen this sorta thing before look at Devan Dubnyk and Sergei Bobrovsky went from almost out the league to Vezina trophy candidates. Goalies are fickle people for sure

Funny that those are the two you mention because as right as you are and as much as I agree they're both looking VERY human this year!

this sorta thing is why i don't really care who is backing up quick as long as there signed cheap. Goalies want to play in our system for a year It shows what they can do with a good team in from and they go sign elsewhere for money. Saving cap space is most important when signing a back up

Goaltending is such a volatile position.

Yessir. And that's why a lot of discussion has moved to 'replacement-level' goaltending and why a lot of folks think the position is overvalued in terms of salary/contracts. Makes a lot of sense when you think of just about any goalie outside the top 5 or 7.

Absolutely. It's not hard to find the aforementioned replacement-level goaltending.

The same crowd that says - "We traded the wrong goalie." Pure garbage. Guy's an AHL goalie that will only play an NHL game if someone goes down.

Back up goalie spot is the last thing i would worry about on this team. They play max 15 game in a very defensive system Goalie will always be available to fill this sorta need and choice of at least 4 i would say at minium

Hell, if anything, the team tightens up around backup goalies, let's give Quickie 40 games and just keep him fresh till the playoffs!

Let's see so far eroth budja and emery Any other vet goalie out there we need to rehab in our system lol :sarcasm:

Brodeur :sarcasm:

to be honest i think that not a bad idea Less games for him raises value of backup to be traded at deadline :P A favourite thing of mine we need to start collecting more picks budja or enorth for a 4 at deadline for a team with a injuryed goalie sounds good to me

lol hmm not a bad idea not good either lol interesting for sure

Yeah, but they have played three games and Budaj has played them all.

Bartosak is hurt. Will miss probably another month or so. They signed Ray Emery on a PTO to be the backup.

Bartosak will be the starter when he comes back starting about 2/3rds of the games, IMO.
