Proposal: Perry to Isles

A young Phil Kessel not even in his prime yet was traded for 2 firsts.
You want to trade 2 firsts AND our best Prospect for a 31yr old Perry who while still a 60+ point 30 goal scorer is likely headed towards a decline even if it's a small one. History says Perry likely won't have many more dominate years left and he's signed at a huge cap hit long term.
Now, with all that being said I would love Perry on the isles and he would be exactly what we need for top line winger for JT. I just don't think he's worth giving up those assets for. Certainly and top prospect/young position player and a high pick. In the salary cap world you need as many cost controlled assets as you can get.
The isles might not look like it but they are up against the cap. I know Kuli Grabovski and Halak are coming off the books within the next couple of years but you need to save space to resign Tavares. All this is moot because I don't see why ANA would move Perry.

Counter: Drop the '18 1st and add Nelson. Could even make it Grabovski instead of Kulemin if that would be better for the Isles.

Thats pretty good value, if we dont feel like we can serious contend this year id do it.

I mean, Grabovski is most likely going to never play again due to concussions. It's just LTIR cap space.

Why would a team with a cheapskate owner (as in, not allowed to spend to the cap), trying to contend, take on the newest "Clarkson contract" under any corcumstance? Especially with Stoner, Bieksa (and Kesler) contracts on the books already?
Especially when trading a guy as desirable and good as Perry...

Good offer but I don't think the ducks consider it unless they give up on this season.
To be honest though one the reason why are season hasn't been better is because of perry. Getzlaf has been above average but Perry has been totally mia.
You may not want to give up so much for him once you watch him.

I love Perry but the Islanders are in NO position to mortgage the future as they are not close at all to a cup contender. If anything I feel they should be looking to next year and beyond.

Great responses, appreciate the input. Perry just looks like he's just not motivated like he used to be. I don't know what the case is. Don't forget JT only getting older and he needs to have a real winger already. This is ridiculous. If you could get 4 seasons out of JT and Perry together there could definitely be a conference final or Stanley cup final if the right pieces are added. Our D is actually good enough to go far in the playoffs Snow needs to make a move now before its too late. Players like JT come around once a decade if your lucky.
