Shesterkin saw the opportunity the Swayman deal created for him.

Goalie market is being reset. You have a top Goaltender that you don't want to lose, you pay him like you do every other top player. Why should arguably the game's best goaltender take less than Will Nye with one 10th place in point finishes as his high watermark before signing?

Kind of strange, normally people are clamouring to play in NY. Does he want out? No way he is worth 12+

he's probably the most important player on the Rangers and he's at the very top of the goaltending ladder right now but realistically what team is paying him much more than that? What team says they are only a $12.5 million dollar goaltender (over 7 years) away from the cup?

just don't want him at that rate. even $11M is too much. NYR's culture of goalies masking shit defenses needs to end.

That is nuts

Rangers time to look forward to post Shesterkin era at this point

And frankly that contract is absurd offer to begin with as he only had 1 elite year and has been pedestrian since and will turn 29 in a couple months
counterpoint: he's been, beyond any doubt, the best playoff goalie in the league since he got in

88 million over 8 years would qualify wouldn't it?
