They had a TGIF on Emmons and Knapp for a few years, behind the Movie Plex. Watched the Yankees come back against Atlanta in the World Series there. They served drinks in these huge glass goblets. The kind used for a hot fudge sundae. Needless to say, I was never able to drive home after leaving that place. They must have been doubles or triples at any other joint. And the nachos never tasted better in my life.

I think it's still there, behind Jordan's Lobster Dock.

did they get a piece of that gigantic Thresher that was pulled out of the bay a few years back?

on topic: any chance Buch plays tomorrow? I'd figure they let him sit it out to get his bearing back
If their air bags deployed, they're are both gonna have whiplash.

Avenue Z and Ocean Avenue are supposedly where the two of them were. My father works with someone at Con Edison who grew up down there in the area in Brooklyn and said that's Little Russia, the area where the Russian mob is usually hanging around, he says. He's already talking about how they should trade these two (the friend) because if they're hanging around down there, then according to him, that spells trouble. Bathhouses down there and stuff, too. Massages and a bit extra, etc. Me, personally, I can't see either getting into off the ice trouble of anything significant, but what do I know. I would also think if Shesterkin was trouble and his head was elsewhere, he wouldn't have been 9-1 with a .940sv&.

EDIT: I see a lot of you have mentioned where the accident took place. Little late to the party here.

Dude, your father's friend is WAY off base. Even if there is Russian mafia there, they're the minority. It's a quiet neighborhood where many peaceful Russians live and spend time. Sounds like he's stereotyping.

Seriously, I'm actually kind of offended at the suggestion that two NHL players should be traded because they were on Ave. Z and Ocean Ave. First of all, if you spending time in any neighborhood warrants you getting traded your priorities are wrong. Second, the idea that they must be mobbed up because there might be a tiny Mafia presence in a peaceful neighborhood (for the most part) is just the height of ignorance. I'm in that area pretty often and haven't (knowingly) had one interaction with the mob.

There were a few joints in Sheepshead Bay, where you wouldn't want to step on the wrong shoes inside those places. But they were easily detectable so to avoid. I remember a catering hall that had a really nasty past. But also a famous Italian joint that had skeletons in the closet too. These places have later been mentioned in books.

I'm 5'4 130 pounds, my good friend is culturally very Russian so he spends a lot of time there and I often go with him there. I've never had a problem. Some houses seem a little "too nice" and the same goes for the cars. So maybe some people are shady there. But I've never had a problem. I've heard of a shooting at El Greco diner some years ago, but that could happen anywhere.

I worked at El Greco a short time. And there have been more than one shooting. But the one I think you are referring to was an execution. And you're right,... that can happen anywhere also. No I'm referring to fancy joints where there never seems to be any action and wonder how they stay in business. More or less fronts for criminal activity you would never see. A little google search and you could get the details.

I've never had a problem.

I used to go to a club that used to be called the Brown Derby. They changed it's name and got upgraded when I used to go there. Can't remember the name but I had some great times there. Nice dance floor, good music, smoking hot women. Then years later I read it was Gotti's place. Of course I knew it was a gangster hangout, but it was quite popular at the time. They would always pat me down at the door when I wore my overcoat. I never had a problem there. So you never really know.

There was another place, also in Bay Ridge called Pastel's. That place was mobbed up also. But was always packed with women every night. Always a line to get in.

It's more or less the suspiciously quiet joints, you would think should be doing very well, that you need to avoid.
