Hextall just needs to clear house. Trade all of our offensive minded prospects for 2way 4th liner prospects. Only way we will see any in the nhl in a proper role. Because at least then they’re projected 4th liners getting 4th line minutes.

Why move Kapanen if we don’t have to?

1st, conditional 2nd, Poulin, Pickering for Chychrun.
Because his stats right now are better than his actual play, and ultimately don’t think he’s long for the team.

Gibson's legit the most overrated player in hockey at this point. Dude has been below average for 4 straight years yet people still talk about him as this surefire top starting goalie.

People write off his shitty numbers as "he plays for a bad defensive team", as if it's not possible for goalies to put up good numbers on a bad defensive team.

honestly i don't really dispute that his play has been less then good, but he has all the tools and the tool box.

As you know with your own experience. A good goalie can only play on a bad team for so long before their play starts to slip. Gibson is 29, not old as far as goalies go and I don't think it's a physical thing hurting his numbers most likely mental. There is a chance that he rebounds in a big way with a change of scenery. There is also a chance he's irrevocablly broken. But a different place where you actually have a chance of winning and a different mindset/culture would probably help him as much as better defense or more.
Though in truth my suggestion was a complete toungue in cheek thing, not really serious about that and it was a mentally lazy exercise to say gibson, just he's a hot button goalie on this board and the ducks are awful. He'd be a bad fit for us if we are keeping Jarry and as you infer dunno if he will rebound to his former self or not

100 percent agree. Gone are the days when Goalies could be faces of franchises and their teams could use the trap to thier advantage. Gibson needs to go on a contender but maybe he likes Anaheim and doesn't want to go anywhere.

I think that may be more Sullivan than the 4th line itself though. I didn't think they played poorly enough to be benched more or less last night.
I totally agree. In the end, it's a problem that we have a supposed shut-down line that Sullivan doesn't trust, so he over-relies on line 3. I'm advocating shoring that bottom 6 up so that Sullivan feels he can use it because lord knows Carter and Geno and Sid need some help managing minutes on occasion.

Upthread, I was talking about TB, but I also feel that Carter was pretty bad in terms of his defensive responsibilities against the Rags. Ideally, because you can't move Carter even if you want to, and he's a vet and respected in the room, make him into Cullen Lite. Move your 2.2 million 4C who plays 8 minutes a night and get rid of some other dead weight or LTIR someone and then bring in a younger 3C who can eat those minutes. Carter can feast on some lesser match-ups, you keep his legs fresher and you shelter his defensive minutes + pair him with some speedy meat + potatoes dudes.

We won't for a number of reasons (duos, Carter is our 3C, stubbornness, vet deference) but it seems like such a simple fix.

I also am not nearly so bullish on TB as other parts of this board, so I'm cool with him going out ala ZAR to nowhere for something we need because paying your defensive specialist 2.2 million to play bad defense 8 minutes a night seems dumb to me.

I'd not mind letting our bottom 6 go. Keep Poe but let everyone else goe. I dunno what we can go after but something different.

Anyone ever think about how we looked good in the playoffs against the Rangers because Dumo was hurt?
I mean it makes sense because I feel like the way to beat the Rangers is to be aggressive on them in the neutral zone and Dumoulin's gap is huge because of how slow he is so he can't just can't play the right way against them.
