Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

I can't see it. I'm writing it off completely.

There's simply zero chance the Pens are going to move a young goalie who just had a good year for a 37 year old goalie. Hextall is not that bold.
unless Fleury would quite literally play for league minimum here, I agree. Anything over that is too much $ when that cap space could be used elsewhere

I criticize Hextall on here pretty much every day but no chance he is that stupid.

i took it to mean they’ll be outbid for those players because Hextall isn’t interested in offering 7 years of term for them…idk

Miller isn't a UFA at this point so that's irrelevant, and if that's what DK meant, he's a very clumsy writer.

The only way that signing Fleury at this point makes sense is if you're trading Jarry for value and then signing Fleury to replace him.

But with DeSmith signed, I don't know why people keep connecting Fleury to Pittsburgh.

well any Miller deal would have to come with an extension so youre negotiating a contract…

Asinine isn't it. But I'll play, what's the return on Jarry?

The only thing that would make sense re: Fleury is if he can move Jarry for a high first. But that has to happen today and the Fleury move would only happen on Wednesday.

Hextall would have to acquire Fleury's rights today, then turn around and deal Jarry for a top-10 pick.

That is a lot of work for Rip Van Hextall.

Because it makes a certain segment of this fanbase drool and gets them to tune in to what is being said

Yes, the Pens could be in on Fleury if they’re planning to deal Jarry if a deal they like falls in place…maybe they don’t want to pay his next contract which is completely understandable to me…if that’s the case, they need to move him at least by the TDL next year

If someone gives you a Cory Schneider type of deal for Jarry, I’d do that and hope you can get Fleury for relatively cheap.

But I doubt anyone would so I really have no interest in Fleury returning at this point.

Would Winnipeg do Wheeler for Zucker and Dumoulin?

3 years, $22.75 million for Letang would be awesome.
They'd probably be looking for Marino if they retain 50% on Wheeler.

But value wise I think Winnipeg would need to add more to the pot, even with that retention so maybe they'd take Zucker in that deal

The other thing to consider with Jarry is he has a pretty cheap cap hit for what he brings. The cap strapped Penguins are not going to move on from a goalie who is fairly cheap and provides good results. Ain't gonna happen.

Kuemper got Timmins, a 1st and a 3rd last year and I think that's fairly reasonable to suggest as a return for Jarry.

The starting goalie market this summer is fairly dry so I think you could get that type of return for him fairly easily. Edmonton really sticks out as a team who would do it, Jarry played for the Edmonton Oil Kings in juniors and I believe he trains in the off-season in Edmonton.

I could see a first if a team felt they could extend him, but then again the market for goalies in terms of trade value always seems to kinda suck.
I don't follow the draft but who other than Cooley is exciting for us? That's like top 4 at worst, right?

If you can get Fleury signed for like 3 years at $4 million a year, he'd only be marginally more expensive than Jarry this year and he'd be cheaper than Jarry in the next 2 years.

Exactly, the only way that makes sense for us is either a high return on Jarry (who would be a rental, so doubtful) or Fleury taking league minimum to play here which is also doubtful, the UFA goalie market is sparse and he could easily get $5M out there.

Pretty sure LeBrun just missed the CDS signing altogether

But let’s say Fleury wants 2 years at the same cap hit, $3.5 M…and someone out there is willing to pay a very good first round pick or top player for Jarry…if the team doesn’t want to sign Jarry to a long term deal at over $5M because our contending time is only 3 years, are you saying you wouldn’t trade Jarry? Because I would…

They could make it work I just don't see it happening. Not even JR would make a move that risky.

But Flower might come cheaper, and Jarry won't be cheaper in a year, and Jarry doesn't have a good playoff record, and Jarry would bring back a useful asset.

I don't really believe it's happening but the logic is easy to see.

The other possibility is they'd move DeSmith within days of resigning, which is unusual to say the least but I'm sure it's happened before...
