Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

You have to pay guys that aren't stars too you know, They don't play for shits & Giggles
You just touched on my biggest complaint with the roster. I understand paying our top guys, even the ones getting long in the tooth.

BUT (take note of the extreme typing for emphasis) you don't overpay beyond those players.

Guys like Mcginn, Heinen, Erod, CARTER (again for emphasis), Petterson, TB.............all could be replaced with young guys that bring energy and hopefully some grit.

Save on them and you have cash to play with for another impactful player or two.

“• For a Malkin deal to not get done, Geno’d have to price his way out of Pittsburgh. And as anyone who knows the man can attest, there’s nothing about his personality that fits such a scenario. He’s always prioritized his comfort level, throughout his career, and that includes his uncommon dynamic alongside Sidney Crosby, his genuine love of how much he’s loved in Pittsburgh and more.

• Similarly, the Penguins are neither underselling nor undercutting him. Trust me on that.

• Filip Forsberg isn’t coming through that door, my friends. And Vince Trocheck isn’t coming home. And neither is J.T. Miller, who’s now being dangled by old friend Patrik Allvin in Vancouver. These players aren’t affordable in the Penguins’ cap scenario and, believe it or not, that wouldn’t change even if Malkin were out. Check my roster/cap counts up there again.”

All of these things aren't realistic...lemme guess, because it's take a first to unload Zuck's $5.5M.

Worst trade of the era. Worse than Brassard.

yep…it’s not affordable because Hextall isn’t planning to move out any of our bloated contracts lol….

On the Trade Rumors board they are discussing a possible Blake Wheeler trade who may want out of Winnipeg. Winnipeg fans say their needs are top-4 d-man and they'd be able to retain salary (50%) on his $8.25M cap hit. 2 years left on his contract.

At $4.1M is there a better option/cap hit for Line 2? Gun to my head my preference is still signing Rakell but if that ship sails this might be another option, and a way to move out a d-man in one fell swoop.

Obviously Wheeler is 35 years old but the period to win is the next 2-3 years anyway. Wheeler is still producing at ppg pace and I'd love to see a winger of his size on Geno's line.

Idk, i just think it beats xxxxx-Geno-xxxxxx.

The idea that Miller and Trocheck are not in the Penguins price range, even if Malkin doesn't sign, is a pretty dumb statement to make. It's just false. I think that goes back to the "the Penguins are in a cap crunch" statement I keep seeing from media members that really isn't true. They can't make Forsberg work, but they absolutely can make Trocheck and Miller work, especially if Malkin leaves.

I also don't really understand how Malkin can both not care about money and the Penguins aren't underselling or undercutting him, while the two sides haven't agreed to a contract.

Don't really get how there'd be no money for a 2C if we didn't sign Geno. That's some odd maths.

You beat me to it. Yeah, I definitely don't think they have the money for Forsberg, but saying they don't have the money for Trocheck or Miller if Malkin left is pretty dumb.

It's almost like there's multiple reasons DK is the most looked down upon Pens media member...

Yeah it's just a bizarre comment to make. Malkin's going to be coming in at over $6 million, but if you don't sign him, they can't afford JT Miller's $5.25 million due to the cap? What? What is he expecting Trocheck to make in UFA if they can't afford him with Malkin out?

Forsberg, yeah they can't afford him because he's getting $10 million or more on the market. But you could do absolutely nothing with this roster beyond re-signing Letang, Kapanen and Heinen and still have like $8 million to spend on your 2C spot.

Slight raise for Letang and a couple mil cut for Geno over a few years is fine for me.

Retool the middle 6 and sign Rakell.

Im hoping for a draft day trade to get a pick or 2 out of some of these contracts.

M********** who thought their ass would age like wine. If you mean it turns to vinegar, it does. If you mean it gets better with age, it don't.

Malkin is going to be 36 in 3 weeks.
Almost 20 years in professional sports.
There can't possibly be much left in the guy.

Yeah DKs comments about the cap make no sense. If Malkin doesn’t sign and they’re offering him at least 6 million, common sense tells you they would have at least 6 million to find a replacement.

Pittsburgh media is the best.

Nice reference. But this team is already old as balls and riding off into the sunset. What is one more geezer. At least Wheeler is a f***ing gamer. Maybe it's a trade best left for NHL 22 though.

i took it to mean they’ll be outbid for those players because Hextall isn’t interested in offering 7 years of term for them…idk

They gotta make the kool aid gang happy for when Hextall does nothing.

That'd be an interesting turn of events given they just signed Casey DeSmith. And I'm not entirely writing the idea off either, just things would get pretty interesting quite quickly if it happened.
I can't see it. I'm writing it off completely.

There's simply zero chance the Pens are going to move a young goalie who just had a good year for a 37 year old goalie. Hextall is not that bold.
