Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

If Geno is willing to take $6 million but wants 4 years I have zero idea why Hextall hasn’t had him sign the dotted line yet. I mean who cares about year 4 of that deal at this point?

Probably because 4 years for a guy of Malkin's age is a pretty substantial commitment that can go wrong very easily for reasons outside of Malkin's ability.

Look at what happened to Scuderi. Shero gave him a 4 year deal when he was going to turn 35 in the first year of the deal. He shatters his ankle really early into his first season and it absolutely ruined him as a player. He was out of the NHL by year 3 and fans were begging for him to get out of the lineup even sooner.

I think it's worth it to get Malkin's upside for that price, so I'd ultimately be fine with giving him a 4 year deal, but you'd have to be ignoring the risks to act like there isn't a risk there.

I'd do 4/$5.5M for Geno. Front load if needed. Realistically $22M of rest of career money is what he'd be looking at here regardless.

2/$7
3/$6.5
4/$5.5

Could all work from my POV

I really hate autocorrect and I have zero excuse using my mobile while posting since I'm on like a 2 month vacation of sorts (company said I needed to use these because I had too many saved up over the pandemic).

Some bloke told me Letang signing is imminent.

Hold on to your bollocks my fellow wankers, that one will be ugly.

Nah it's not substantial knowing Malkin is still an elite talent. He literally had a few injuries that needed surgery but because we have a crack team of f***ing muppets on the medical staff, he kept rehabbing it and coming back. Last season he finally got surgery and was still a ppg while struggling and having zero fit for wingers.

You commit to the f*** out of that.

Letang at his current rate for 4 years and Geno taking a 3.5 mill pay cut for 4 years is a really ideal scenario. Hope it happens.

Lots of excuses in that post. #71 is no longer elite and shouldn’t be paid like it.

Buncha Babies....

Someone go get a Go Fund Me page up for, Geno....

Geez....

If you can get Malkin at 3 years and $6.5 million and Letang at 4 years at $7.5 million, you're currently sitting with $7.4 million in cap space with 10 F, 7 D and 2 goalies. Trade Pettersson and re-sign POJ for $800k takes that to about $10.6 million in cap space with:

Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
XXXXX-Malkin-XXXXXX
Zucker-Carter-XXXXXX
O'Connor-Blueger-McGinn
Zohorna-XXXXX

Dumoulin-Letang
Matheson-Marino
POJ-Ruhwedel
Friedman

Jarry-DeSmith

Even if you keep Zucker, which I'm not crazy about, you're left with about $9.8 million to split among 2 2nd line wingers and a 3rd line winger however you see fit. Go cheap on L3 RW and you can add 2 Rakell caliber guys to play with Malkin, or you could spread out the cost more with say 2 Heinen caliber guys and 1 Rakell.

Or you could also go the more bold route of funneling like $7 million of that money into 1 guy for Malkin and going cheap reclamation style projects in the other 2 spots. Giroux is probably the closest guy to that available in free agency right now.
