I really hope Dubas isn't insane enough to give up our first, even if it's lottery protected. There's zero chance the Pens fare any better next year.

If they want Pickering or McGroarty to do this, sure, whatever.

And next years draft is shaping up to be very strong at the top. Absolutely no way we give up a 1st. We very likely will pick in the bottom five each of the next two-three drafts. Those picks must NOT be dealt! And I feel confident they are off limits!

Spending premium assets on Jiricek doesn't make sense to me. If we send them McG I imagine we still have to add a lot.

This is our first actual tank season in decades so our 1st should be off limits, protected or not.

Why don't we actually start selling players. Can we squeeze Lekkerimaki out of Vancouver for Petts? Is there a Sullivan-free future where this guy makes sense on the Pens?

I would be patient with McGroarty. One full AHL season under his belt before arriving at any conclusions. There's no rush to trade him. He's 20. You can just as well trade him at 21. There'll be other prospects teams are looking to deal then.
He's got good playmaking, size and hockey sense. Pretty decent shot. Some defensive conscience. The foundation is there for us to expect him to get better. This is a sell low point most likely.
We don't know enough yet.

I don't really mind if they take longer to sell guys, as long as they get a healthy amount done before the deadline. They're losing enough that it's not a problem.

But yeah, it's so hard to tell if dealing a 1st for Jiricek would be the right move. We have no idea what he's gonna turn out to be. People's opinions have changed on him in a matter of months.
And our 1st could turn out to be complete trash too. I know I certainly wouldn't deal a 2026 1st. That has to be off-limits with McKenna coming.

You would think if McGroarty alone was an acceptable return a deal would've been made already. Can't really tell if the article posted above is a grandstanding hit piece put out on Waddell's behalf to drive up the price or not. We heard from a couple sources a deal was imminent, then nothing.

It is actual insanity that there is even chatter about trading McGroarty. Like seriously, WTF???

So Dubas thought he was accelerating the rebuild by trading Yager (19) for McGroarty (20), and then the latter got predictably Sullivan-ed to the point where he lost his confidence as a player. So now we are going to rinse and repeat?

Hey Kyle, here's a thought...fire the COACH! You just might realize that all those failed prospects down on the farm are actually not failures but rather victims of a piss-poor organization without a clue. They may still fail, but we will just never know until the stain is lifted from the organization.

Geezes christ, my hockey team is turning into my football team (Jets) and I don't know if I can handle it.

I don't like Sullivan but what does he have to do with a potential Yager to McG to Jiri trade tree?

Makes you wonder if there is a trade lined up for Karlsson or Letang? If Dubas landed Jiricek, would playing him on the bottom pair be enough or could there be a Letang to Montreal move as well?

People, I know this is Yohe but in what world is DOC nearly untouchable? If someone wants him and is willing to pay a decent draft pick for him, ship him out at the deadline! lol…

“The ‘We’d Rather Not, But Everyone Has A Price’ division

Drew O’Connor

He’s big, young and fast. In other words, the Penguins want more players like him, not fewer. He’s an unrestricted free agent after this season, which puts the Penguins in a rough spot. O’Connor has reached his full potential, but that said, he’s a pretty good player.

Other teams no doubt will be interested in his services.”

Also, Friedman on his podcast said he thinks Dubas is interested in Dach from MTL…fits his reclamation project vision lol…don’t know what we have MTL would want though…lol

You’re asking for too much reasoning and logic with that question.

I mean, what Yohe said there is correct. They want more guys like O’Connor in their bottom-6. If O’Connor wasn’t a pending UFA, I don’t think they’d realistically be exploring trading him.

Putting him in the “we’d rather keep him” category is totally valid.

I asked that same question a few pages back. But after further thought, I'm not sure what they'd want with either Letang or EK. They suck just as bad as we do.

It's Pagnotta so good for passing time only most likely.
This is a very sexually appealing article.

I don't think DOC is untouchable as Yohe thinks but his reasoning is sound: He's big, he's fast, he's young. They want more of that, not less.

It was actually a decent recap of where most guys are, IMHO.

Yeah but they should take the best offer for him and run. They shouldn’t even be interested in signing him so he should be in the same category as Petts…he’s already in his prime and he’s not that great…offensive skill and IQ lacks a lot

My hope is that they have something in theory for Karlsson. Either this season or likely in the off-season. But in reality, I think it's an upgrade on JSI for this year and then eventual replacement for Letang or Karlsson when the time comes (but nothing pressing).

DOC cant be that expensive to re-sign with the season he's having. Id want at least a third for him but if that doesn't happen just give him a 2 x 2 deal or something like that.
Matching 2yr $1.5mil deals for him and Puljujarvi would be nice.

Yeah I’m frustrated with O’Connor’s inconsistency but he’s not a “trade to trade” guy. I’d take a 2nd for him easily but a 3rd rounder is borderline between “keep him or trade him?”.

DOC and Puljujarvi are fine players in isolation, but I don't want them back with Hayes, Acciari, and Lizzote already taking up half the sports in the bottom 6 next year. The Penguins have too many guys jamming up the path to the NHL for guys like Koivunen, Broz, and McGroarty.

Too old to keep if you’re trying to surround G and Sid with younger players imo…we already have 33 year old Hayes and Acciari on the books next season and Nieto is +30..I’d move on…I do think they can get at least a third for him…

Dach has been pretty bad this year but he is coming back after missing a year of hockey. Prior to that he looked good in MTL.

If you can get DOC for a 3rd you do that in a heartbeat, the extra value is you clear up his roster space and someone below the age of 33 can play.
