Went through.... Shit forget the site name, I'll find it shortly... I think Puljujarvi is the only forward to not see top 6 minutes.... He definitely has not been on Crosby or Malkins wing yet this year.
He was for a bit.

Unlike the rest of these wankers, I don't make shit up mate.

Rakell-Malkin-Puljujarvi for about 9mins and some change.

Yeah like Mark Jankowski!

1st round, 21st overall baby!
I mean, that's kind of the point. Not every 1st round pick is Sid or McDavid, or Marner. Most later 1st (20-30ov) end up like Jankowski, Glass, Puljujarvi, etc. Some teams get lucky in later rounds - us with Rust and Guentzel, Tampa with Point, Dallas with Robertson - but you tend to need a wide range draft picks, trades, and signings to build a good team.

I'm merely pointing out that getting these guys sorta of blocks the "well, we are bad because we gave away 1st round picks" argument a bit.

Ok, in all seriousness....

What are the chances that Karlsson could be packaged to Ottawa for Norris? There's about 2 million in the difference and I would assume Ottawa would want a forward as well.

But making the numbers work with contracts and not having to retain means we would still have a retaining space for a closer to the deadline trade.

I mean out of these former firsts...

Sullivan wasted McCann and his usage and he's doing the same to Puljujarvi. The rest were mostly whatever, they could have used what they had in wbs and it'd cost them less for those other names.

I don't think you've got a prayer in hell of trading EK without 50% retained to even get talks started tbh.

I would say that I wish the coach would at least allow the team to take some chances, open things up and hopefully pump some numbers to build value. But the GM put together such a ham-fisted, dim bulb collection of overpaid mid-tier trash that they wouldn't even know what to do with the autonomy.

Koivunen is new jack Anshakov now that the great wheel of shit has finally turned full circle.

"He's super skilled and might just need a chance!"

"So he's one of their best prospects?"

"Well no but..."
No denying his vision and skill, but he didn't seem to have NHL skating when I saw him in the preseason. Maybe his career plays out like Kenny Agostino, one of our former picks who put up good numbers in the A, but never quite caught on in the NHL. Sort of like Alex Nylander and probably dozens of other guys like that. But he's really young, so who knows. Still hoping for the best from him.

I mean Norris is a huge injury risk, and has a 7.95m contract, they're also talking about trading a core player.... Staios is apparently an idiot, sooooooooooooo maybe?

And don't get me wrong, I'm a big Karlsson fan I'd rather he stay because I really enjoy watching him play.... Defensive miscues included lol... I'd rather keep Karlsson and somehow trade Letang, but I'd be surprised if that happened.

Yeah the cap that Ottawa has, you'd have to retain at least that much or if Dubas can pull it off somehow...

Retain 30% and get another team to retain 30% and get the Sens to cough up more to make with worth while. Like the Sens giving up a 1st and Norris and the Pens also giving up a couple of picks they don't want to give up to get another team to retain.

Like giving up a 2nd, Doc and a prospect (maybe Koivunen or Cruz).

To Ottawa: Karlsson (60% retained thru 2 teams), Pens 2nd, and O'Connor.

To Pens: Norris, the third team in this deal's 2nd and 3rd rounder

To third team: Sens 1st and Cruz for eating 30%

He's tradeable without it but not for anything valuable. Maybe you'd get like a 2nd for him at his current cap. To get some real value out of him, yeah, we could get teams to compete for him if he was half the price.

He just sucks.
Does every player that we have drafted and developed suck or could it be that Sully beats any sense of offensive awareness out of them??? Most coaches are glorified gym teachers who can only teach one thing... defense first. Sully is that, with 2 rings in tow to quadruple down on both arrogance and ignorance.

The fact that Doc was developed and then turned to shit this year same for a couple of others that looked good only to be turned to shit right after says it's definitely not the player.

But then those haters have nothing left to talk about.

Yeah, I mean, I still think EK has the talent to help a team succeed in the right conditions. But this team's cratered his value and you absolutely must, no questions asked, retain a huge amount in order to move him for any kind of value.

I do think Ottawa would want him as a player and for sentimental reasons. There might be something there. But I dunno if an EK trade is happening in-season because of how all the numbers need to line up. Feels a lot more like an off-season deal when teams have a bit more leg room to swing a trade like that.

-edit- Also, I don't really give a shit about Norris if I'm Dubas. Dude's shoulder might be perma-f***ed and I'd rather take picks and prospects with where the Pens are already at and will continue to head toward.

ESPN is just as puzzled as us:

But of course Sullivan's reputation around the league is sparkling:
You left out the best part - him being in a category all by himself next to the ice cold tier called "Planet Sullivan"

and this nauseating quote:

"I'm invested in the Pittsburgh Penguins," Sullivan said. "I care very, very deeply about this organization. I care deeply about the group of guys who have been in that locker room for a very long time. I love this organization with all of my soul. This organization and so many people associated with it have changed my life in so many ways. And so, for me, the challenge of trying to move this team forward and transition this team, it's a different kind of challenge, but it's one that I am welcoming."

@Duffy13 the link I sent, naturalstattrick, look at the usage of other wingers and then ask yourself is this really a team "trying everything" to win?

Because the answer is an earth shattering f*** no. He's using scoring wingers in 4th line grinder deployments, has players playing on their off wing to force weird usage, he's a f***ing moron of a coach and all anyone can do here is shit on the players?

It's one of the dumbest things about our board. That they seemingly acknowledge the coach is a f***ing moron with his usage and then shit on the players that are hugely affected by the said shitty usage for ice time and deployment/assignments.

I'm just, like... f***in' bewildered as to how or why this team's allowed Sullivan to operate with impunity for so long. It just makes no sense. I know guys who make the SCF and/or win have leash for a long time in this league, but like, we're closing in on a decade without a playoff round won. They're gonna miss for a third time in a row, and this time probably by miles. He's shown a fanatical aversion to playing youth. He's shown a complete unwillingness or he's simply incapable of coaching guys that don't arrive as fully finished products.

It's bizarre. I'm gonna get so f***in' stoned the day Sullivan's fired, man. Gonna celebrate like when Kissinger died.

I'll be honest. If we had a guarantee of trading what would be a mid 1st rounder to get one more playoffs with this core, I do it 100%.
The only way this team sees a playoff again with this core is if they fire Sullivan. So really, Sid, Geno, and Letang will end their careers last having seen the playoffs in 2020-21.

I'd rather just use EK's reputation and sell him at 50%.
Norris has talent but his body's gonna give out on him imo. We'd be tacking on an additional 18 mil compared to EK's deal, and we'd be stuck with it til summer 2030.

I think thinking about the short term in this case could be very damaging long term.

Plus if you have to add to EK then forget about it

The frustrating thing is that if it is the roster and Sullivan isn't the problem, then why the hell haven't you nuked the roster yet and gone into the full rebuild?

I think Sullivan needs to go obviously, but they need to do something. At minimum, they need to either nuke the roster and intensify the rebuild or bring in a new coach and see if you can salvage the current roster.

Dubas is just as complicit as the issues of the rebuild as Sullivan, if not more so. Dubas has the ability to force the team's hand and make the team rebuild, but he's actively deciding to not do that.

Jets fan here...saw a story on Sportsnet (I believe) that suggested EVEN Crosby could be on the market as Pitt goes full rebuild..

Highly unlikely, I know BUT what would the expectation be in a trade for the still great player?

Ballpark - a 1st + 2 top young players + a top prospect?
