Oh it's not optimism about the Pens, it's pessimism about the Preds.

Because he's been benched and given 4th line minutes because Brunette is a moron.
You haven’t met our coach Sullivan…he should have been fired four years ago…he’ll get 8-9 minutes in the bottom six and if he doesn’t produce or makes a bad mistake, especially playing without the puck, he’ll be benched and scratched

I like to imagine Dubas being like "Hey Mike we can't score so I got this kid who has shown a bit of skill for pennies and he's only 23 so he has room to grow." And Sullivan just scowling at Dubas as if he smelled the most repulsive cat shit.

Like it's painfully obvious that this team needs top six help (among everything else) since Beauviller is basically bargain bin Pascal Dupuis (who wasn't even that great as a top six wing) and Bunting should probably by rights be in the AHL at this point. But you just know this kid is going straight to Matt Nieto purgatory after a few shifts next to Sid that he doesn't absolutely light up.

31. Philip Tomasino, C, Niagara IceDogs (OHL)

67GP – 34G 38A 72P/ 39% XLS/ 41.6 XPR/82

Tomasino is the complete offensive package. His hands, feet, hockey sense — they’re all good to above average traits, and they give him a higher ceiling than one might otherwise suspect from a 31st overall player. That said, Tomasino was playing on an offensively loadedteam in Niagara, and it seemed clear in my viewings that a not-insignificant portion of his production can be attributed to that.

He’s a fearless puck-carrier, willing to pay the price to take the puck to the high-danger parts of the offensive zone. His hands are elite
EPrinkside.com 2019
Tomasino is a swiss-army knife forward whose versatility made him effective.
Hockeyprospect.com 2019
His explosive skating style is highlighted by a lightning-quick first step and high-end foot speed
Future Considerations 2019
He is a highly athletic center who is a plus skater, with good vision and a strong wrist shot
McKeen's Hockey 2019
dynamic offensive talent … creates offence with hard work … very consistent … jumps in and out of holes to create chances

Adding him to Crosby's line would be huge.

In what way? Sid looks like he genuinely needs top 6 help to do anything anymore (like, lost without Geno out there)... not more young players who are all ifs and maybes and nearlys.

Throw anything at the wall at this point, sure. But Sid is also the type of guy who "LOVED" to play with a shit ton of other players who sucked, horribly. Might be better to tell him what HE needs to be successful instead of keeping a stale coach he seems to love, signing guys like JJ, and playing him with DOC types. It's his brand to be the guy who elevates a line....but he doesn't appear that dominant anymore. Plus he gets double teamed a lot and now frequently loses those battles.
