If we take on Copp, we better be coming back than that. Or something else needs to be going to the wings. I mean, STL paid a 2nd just to get out of Hayes, who had two years at $3mil. Honestly, though I MIGHT consider Petts+Jarry or Graves for Copp+2 2nds. I think that deal rounds out values decently well.

But honestly, I don't think the Pettersson deal should be one where we use his value to escape a bad deal. Nor should we be seeing his value as something that needs to have a legit cap dump attached to it. Sending back cap is fine if the player is salvageable but we shouldn't be adding a dump. You would have to look at it as two separate deals in one.

Pettersson for 1st, 4th
Jarry for Copp

I could stomach that I think.

I mentioned an article that had that trade proposal. I agree taking on that contract has to be a higher return to the Pens. My actual point was the wings are still in the compete for a playoff run.

I always assumed MP would get a 2nd round pick as the main value in a deal with him. He's not getting a first unless someone is desperate enough to want to acquire him now instead of at the TDL.
He should bring back a 1st, even Chiarot got a 1st in 2023. Dmen at the deadline usually command a premium, and Pettersson is the best dman available. Don't trust Dubas to actually get proper value though. He gets bent over in every negotiation.

Problem with Dubas, as we saw with the Guentzel trade, is he'll probably once again go for "quantity" over quality. So instead of a 1st or a really good prospect, he'll look for a 2nd and a 4th or a couple of mediocre prospects.

Nieto is Sullivan's most used forward on the PK since he signed here. You'd have to pry Nieto out from Sullivan's cold, dead hands. Hopefully some team can be tricked into paying a 6th/7th for him like Ruhwedel.

Guys, you haven’t learned yet that any forward who PKs will not be scratched by this coach …lol

Let's not forget that Matt Nieto went to Boston University. So, he obviously learned how to play "the right way". Maybe one day, Pono will reach those lofty heights, but for now...
He’s a Euro..he’ll never learn…
