Oh it's still very true. It's just that the Penguins think they know better.

And with results like these who can argue?
Could you even imagine what would happen if they fired Sullivan and Reirden? My god, man! They might by treading water around the bottom third of the conference and go six years without winning a playoff round! Might even miss the playoffs in the Sid/Geno/Letang era for the first time in nearly 20 years!

Seriously, just f***ing fire the idiots. I don't give a damn if they run with a cardboard cutout of Kyle Gass from Tenacious D behind the bench. Have some god damn self respect and fire the guy who has been at the helm of your team's steady and precipitous fall for more than half a decade.

-edit- All joking aside; it's a money thing imo. They just don't wanna risk paying a dude like $25 million to sit on his couch and make analyst appearances on TSN or TNT or whatever. Not with the team teetering on a knife's edge of going back to the days of having to hand out tickets to college students just so the arena didn't look absolutely barren.

Well then they shouldn't have practically crapped themselves in glee forking over a huge extension while he still had years on the table. Like a bunch of f***ing fanboys or something.

Besides... I thought he was OMGGREATESTHCEVAH? He'll be scooped in a heartbeat and they're off the hook, yeah?

FSG's really just been kinda f***ing stupid since the purchase imo. They paid a billion dollars for a team that may not make the playoffs again until like 2035, is about to lose every player that sells jerseys and puts butts in the seats over the next couple of years, and has been the opposite of the cold and calculated machine we were told they'd be.

No idea how his contract works. I've read they'd be off the hook if he's hired, I've read they're not off the hook even if he's hired, I've read they may just have to pay a chunk of what he's owed to be out of the rest, etc. I'm not sure anybody really knows for sure.

Yeah, I don't think FSG would have to worry about being on the hook for Sullivan's contract for very long. The NHL loves its retread coaches, especially the ones with a bit of success.

I mean, John Hynes keeps getting jobs and he's Sullivan without the back to back Cups.

There are teams who are on the fence about firing their coach who would probably fire their coach if they knew Sullivan was available. Dude is weirdly revered throughout the league.

It just seemed like an acquisition to me. I tend to agree with @AuroraBorealis - I think they're just dumb about the sport and don't much care, anyway. Just stuck some dingdong yes-man in Pittsburgh to run things who is probably a Pats fans first second third and fourth and also saw a hockey game that one time when he was on vacation overseas.

People just get real embarrassed that they went all in on the coach is a genius thing, don't they?

Welp... nothing to do now but quadruple down!

It must be hard being a Boston based venture-cap firm that owns sports franchises who can't find anyone that knows hockey.

I'm sure they could. But why do that when you can your golf buddy that only says nice things to you a cushy job running that hockey team or whatever.

It's definitely somebody's golf buddy's kid, isn't it?

Anyhow, putting a pin in this so that when the same problems happen again next season we can say "who could have possibly predicted this??"

Oh, for sure. I said before it screams "Rich guys with too much money who must own *more* things". They're dipshits when it comes to hockey who just bought the team cuz they felt like it, simple as that.

Could be worse, I guess. FSG could be the Pegulas or Jerry Jones.

For all the chest thumping in the 2010s about analytics getting overlooked by knuckle-dragging front office heads.....

...I think analytics is what this team sold its' soul to in this ZAR era. There's folks here that remind everyone how great our xG stats are after every loss. Just a loser team in desperate need of change that - if you're looking for a reason why that change hasn't happend that's the ONLY crowd with anything positive to say....so yeah, all evidence points that way.

They gave up hockey minds for college grads who are wetting themselves on the future of AI/big data-knows-all.

Also who else is practically swimming in the irony of Mario being known as the king of the country club and yet his ownership group was a bajillion times more "cutthroat" than these dorks?
Eh, I dunno. End of the run Mario was ready to let JR keep GMing until the old f*** shit his pants and stomped off, doing this organization a favor. Then the guy hired Hextall of all people after his time in Philly.

Truth be told it's been a shitshow for a long time now, top to bottom.

Hextall Penguins were much more enjoyable than Dubas.

Imagine that... this team looks more boring adding Erik Karlsson.
