Trade Guentzel for pieces, some of which along with Nieto are used to acquire a young 2nd line Center. Trade Joseph for a 4C. Trade Smith for a dman with size/snarl...

Rakell Crosby Rust
Malkin TRADE Puustinen
Poulin Eller Puljujarvi
O'Connor TRADE Acciari
Carter

Pettersson Letang
TRADE Karlsson
Graves Ludvig
Ruhwedel

I don't know there's any scenario where we trade Guentzel while pretending we aren't done. Rakell Crosby Rust neuters Crosby so badly.

Is there a hockey trade to be made with LA? Do they want Jarry? Can we have Fiala?

I'm sure PLD is available, lol

If you deal Jake, you keep Smith and put him with Crosby since Smith is very much a player that would thrive with someone like Crosby based on style of play.

Would like to see:

GCR
Malkin-Eller-Puustinen
DOC-Poulin-Rakell
Harkins-Acciari-White

After the break. IMO White has been much better than Carter out there. Though Carter is useful on PP2.

PP1: GCR, Puustinen, Letang
PP2: Malkin, Eller, Rakell, Poulin, not-Karlsson (either POJ or Petts). Realize the last part of the last thing will never happen.

I think we can be buyers without going after big tickets. A 3rd pair RD and a 4th line upgrade. Keep the trade chips to 3rd round picks or less and prospects that aren’t really in our plans anyway.

Those small things can still make a huge difference. Look how useless our 4th has been the last couple games especially. Icings and hardly any shifts with any kind of sustained pressure. Imagine halving the icings and adding a few more O-zone shifts, maybe a couple shots and even a scoring chance. Hell maybe even a goal once every 3 games instead of once every 8 or whatever they’re doing now.

3rd pair LD too if Ludvig doesn't work out (get someone like Ludvig, but better) and there's absolute-zero chance that Ty Smith gets a shot.

I haven't followed WB/S super closely this year and just scanned their roster.

Kinda crazy that Smith is Tarnstrom-ing it up down there and there is zero buzz about him.

If we can get a return like Giroux did for Guentzel, id be ecstatic. 1st + 3rd + under 23 Nhler (Tippet). Guentzel might even command a little more.
I think we can get more. At the time of the trade, Giroux had 18g, 24a for 42pts in 57gp

Guentzel is younger and as of now has 22g, 27a for 49pts in 46gp

I really do think if Jake is traded, the team going after him will have intentions of extending him like Mieir last year

If we could get a young NHL player back for Jake like (not saying they’re available) Hoglander, Jarvis,Mercer, and not just a prospect a few years away, i think Dubas would pull the trigger…not sure if those offers are there…but if we could get a really good young forward +, it’s probably worth it even being in the PO race

Definitely a trade to be made with Vancouver and screw them over as much as possible. You know Alvin and Rutherford will bite

Good post from a poster on another site…

“At this point last season, January 28th, we had played 3 more games, had 6 more points (57 points), and were in WC2 spot, 1 point behind WC1 spot (WSH) with 2 games in hand.

This season, on January 28th, we're 5 points out of 3rd in the Metro, 6 points out of WC2 spot, and 7 points out of WC1 spot. We're worse off, and marginally better on paper. Last year at this time, we had give up 27 more goals, but we had also scored 23 more goals.

There were people wanting to see at the deadline last year (I think I was one on the fence). We're in a worse spot this year, and we've actually LOST ground. 1 month ago, December 28th, we were 3 points out of WC2 spot, 5 points out of WC1 spot, and 6 points out of 3rd in the Metro. November 28th, we were 4 points out of both WC spots, and 2 points out of 3rd in the Metro.

Those trends, the PP, the goal decrease, dead last in finishing expected goals...all should be enough for any sane GM to sell at the deadline. For me, February 15th is our deadline to start putting out selling trade feelers. We have 5 games after the ASG break....Winnipeg twice, Florida, Chicago, and Minnesota. If we can't get down to 2-3 points out of a spot and show meaningful improvement (ie, the PP does something), we gotta sell.

You can't sign Jake if Jake refuses to even consider signing in the summer. And if Jake is looking for 10M plus...it does no good to sign Jake when you'll have difficulty filling out the rest of the holes on this roster.”

I don’t think they’re trading Jake. I’m fairly comfortable saying they won’t. I also believe he’ll be on the opening day roster next season

I'm ok trading him but also ok signing him to an extension. I would not be ok with him walking in the summer.

Yep and you can’t take a risk of that happening by not knowing what could happen at the end of the season…if you don’t get a commitment from Jake before the deadline, you must trade him, assuming there are some good offers for him…

The issue is once again that Jeff Carter needs scratched.

Harkins does not have NHL skill but he buzzes around out there fine. Same with Acciari. Carter himself is absolutely toast and is just ringing the puck up the wall and praying it stops short of icing the moment he touches the puck in the D-Zone.

A willingness to upgrade the bottom-6 has include Jeff Carter being scratched again.

Jake has seemed quite a bit different lately in games.

I'm not sure where the confidence is coming from. Dude genuinely seems disinterested here - at best anxious and waiting.

While I don't think he's made his mind up - the pressure should be there. I've seen this crap way, way too often in sports to live it again. Star wants to be here. Can't see themselves anywhere else....then Summer comes and they're gone and we pissed away a guaranteed 1st plus plus plus because we got emotional.

They're not gonna trade Jake cuz they don't have the balls or brains to do something as forward-thinking as that. They'll keep him through the TDL, there will be some back and forth for a bit and the organization will either cave and hand him an asinine ~$75 million deal or they'll lose him for nothing because this team no longer gives him a chance to chase another Cup.

He's getting paid either way, whether he sticks around or leaves.
