I don't think I've ever been less excited for a season since I've been on the HFBoards.

That's because the team is worse than last year. Everyone is older with more of a losing mentality and none of the prospects are exciting. At best you're watching to see if Petry is still a #2D and if Smith shows any major improvements over the course of the season. Also holding onto the mentality that the Pens could have made the conference finals 2 straight seasons with average goaltending, that this time will be different.

Why is the team worse than last year? We literally lost…

Evan Rodrigues
Mike Matheson
John Marino

From last year’s roster. Last year we also entered the season with no Sid or Malkin. And a top six wing group of Guentzel, Rust, Kapanen, Zucker.

Good to hear Kappy is getting some PK time. That's one thing he could have been doing the whole time. Good onya Sully, getting off your own foot and only taking years to do it.

I won't be able to watch anyway since ESPN+ rights are owned by distributors here that show maybe one NHL game a week on a good week....

my worries are that we also lost, lets say 20% of quality, due to age depriciation of Sid, Geno and Letang, I hope they prove me wrong.

Letang had arguably his best season yet last year.

Sid had a hell of a season if you call that depreciation sign me up ill take 10 players like that

The only questionable player with depreciation/injuries is Geno and he still was at a PPG and this is probably the healthiest offseason he's had in a while so that's likely a good thing

one would hope that they can play forever at the same level...but at that age there is a tipping point when the things go downhill, hope its not this year,

Already declaring this team worse than last years without even seeing them play a single real game. I wish I had that kind of clairvoyance.

It’s like if the team didn’t make the exact moves you wanted, despite if they were realistic or not, people declare the season lost.

I’m still worried with Jarry in net come playoff time. Everything else is meaningless if that idiot continues playing like garbage.

-Geno and Zucker had healthy offseasons
-Full year of Rakell
-Petry/Rutta is a massive upgrade to the RD.

It'd be a big suprise if we miss the playoffs. I'm really just interested on how the team performs once we get there.

I don’t see this major drop off for the Pens. The D should be better and the F group is deep. We have 2 solid goalies.

Imo the way this team misses the playoffs is if a NJD or CBJ or whoever in the Met/East ends up extremely f***ing good as a 105 point type team.

Not sure if that’s really in the cards, but anything could happen.

I think it'll be:
Canes, Pens, Rangers

Darkhorse: CBJ - think Johnny and Laine are gonna create some noise this year

I think if we're even marginally more healthy during the regular season that will be an improvement, and if we don't have to dip 4 deep into our goalie depth in the playoffs we'll probably have a better season. Hell, and even if we do, I think Tokarski and Lindberg are better than Domingue.

I think the hope is that Petry makes us more playoff-capable, not necessarily more regular-season capable.

These are unusual times, eh? End of the era was always going to come but it feels that way now.

The team can still make a run. It's a good team. I just don't know if it's a GREAT team. Definitely a good team.

This is where I'm at. I think we're a good team, and will have a strong season. I just don't know that we're cup caliber. Not unless we get red hot when the playoffs arrive.

I think we'll comfortably make it though. We might even win a round or two if we get the right matchups and stay healthy.

Canes, Pens, Rangers I think are the clear front-runners but I don't think the Rangers are better than last year and I remain unsure if Shesterkin can remain God Tier. I mean I'm sure he'll be elite and still be a top 2 keeper in this league but the man dragged that team to wins last year almost soley on his continuously weighed down shoulders.

CBJ and NJD will be better.

Isles stink, Flyers REALLY stink. Caps are a question mark.
