Penguins trade Brian Dumoulin
Knights trade Evgeni Dadonov and Nicholas Hague
The Penguins get younger to start the retool and a winger replacement for Rust. The Knights get an upgrade on defense and gets out of Dadonov's deal.
Penguins might need to retain 50% on Dumoulin to make this offer more compelling, if they start fielding offers for Nick Hague, those offers are going to be really strong, and they can find a taker for Dadonov (if they're still committed to moving him) for a 2nd round pick. Dumoulin's value isn't that high, even with retention.
And if Nick Hague loves it in VGK, he could sign an inexpensive one year deal with an "agreement" tucked in the GM's top drawer on a multi-year deal which he can sign in the new year (after January 1st or whatever the date) that's a long term deal for more money, that will kick in the following year when they have more cap space -- exactly like what the Penguins did with Marcus Pettersson when he was an RFA.
So he may not get traded at all, particularly if he doesn't want to leave. And if he's made available, I think we're going to have to add....if we even have the assets.
