Do you remember the spring when Paul Dipietro was a common household name here in Canada?

I can't believe that he's only 35 years old still...great to see him succeed...on International Olympic stage no less!

Perhaps, he's just the prescription for CH right now! ;)

As for team Canada, it's a good wake up call to get them playing some serious hockey instead of this pu$$y footin' pansy hockey that they're playing right now! They need to gel NOW and start playing desperate hockey...or come next week, they're going home!

isn't Gretzky looking like an idiot for not putting Dipietro on team Canada now

I was just thinking that this is the type of command performance that would get him looked at in the NHL next season.

If i am correct i think players don't get taxed when they play in switzerland. So making 400K there would be like making 750K in the NHL. I can't see him making more cash in the NHL so it probably won't happen.

Paul Dipietro is a native of my home town, SAULT STE. MARIE, not Sudbury!

Where did CBC get their info?

DiPietro played for the sudbury wolves for a few years, must have gotten confused

I was confused when one of the commentators said "Paul DiPietro of the Los Angeles Kings" at one point, so I looked him up and discovered that his last stint in the NHL was in 96-97 for the Kings (a whole 6 games). Perhaps it's a silly question, but do the Kings still hold his rights? I would assume not, but what the commentator said suggested otherwise. If they do, then he'd obviously have to sign with them if he were to try his hand at the NHL again. If not, he could sign with anyone.

Paul Dipietro is BACK!

Osprey, I have no idea of this player's specific situation, but one can only assume he walked as a UFA. Even if he wasn't, teams don't retain rights for 10 years.

Probably, but he did flee the Kings system to go to Europe before he was of UFA age, so he might still owe the remaining years to the team if he wants to play in the NHL again :dunno:. I'm not very good with what happens when players go to Europe, hence the question.

Forgive me if I'm asking a dumb question here, but how did he qualify for the Swiss team? Is he in any way Swiss, or did the Swiss relax their legendarily difficult citizenship restrictions for him?
