Paul Cotter having DoPS hearing for illegal check to head of Adam Pelech (suspended 2 games)

DOPS should suspend Markstrom for the first 2 playoff games instead of Cotter. Make it fun.

I’m 50/50 on suspension. He got 5 and a game. It looked like Cottter definitely stuck his elbow out but the odd thing is it looks like he wasn’t even looking at Pelech. Weird play and bad timing. Never seen Pelech so enraged and rightfully so

Pelech knows the league will just give him a slap on the wrist and move on. Similarly to how they handled (aka ignored) the elbow by Domi on George.

Cotter knew exactly what he was doing and should be suspended.

Clear, intentional blow to the head.

(edit: I had originally typed 'elbow to the head' because I am stupid.)

Lol he did not call him a dunce, he called him a c word that rhymes with bunt.

Game misconduct is fine. It was a shoulder to the chin because Pelech was hunched over shooting the puck in. Cotter should have done a flyby, nothing malicious about the hit, he went to stupidly finish a check and caught the head because player was in a bad position.

Move along

I don’t know if I’d say intentional, but it’s a symptom of guys trying to get a piece of each other at every opportunity, even when there’s no clean hit to be had. The telltale sign is Cotter flinching away from contact, turning his head the other direction. It’s like a kid trying to catch a pop fly while flinching away, great way to miss the ball and hurt yourself. Cotter’s doing that in the context of a hit he should not have attempted.

Feels like a 1-gamer to get this kind of hit out of his repertoire.

Cotter changed his angle of approach to make contact, and the only contact he made was a hard shot directly to Pelech's head. And Pelech was injured.

If I understand the parameters that they use to determine punishment correctly, I'd say 3 games minimum.

BTW, according to TSN, apparently the league has come down really, really hard on Cotter and the Devils:

"Cotter played 5:42 before departing, registering one shot on goal as New York went on to win 1-0.

The Devils and Islanders have each been eliminated from playoff contention and will play two games apiece this week to wrap up their 2024-25 schedule."

:sarcasm:

Kicking his entire team out of the playoffs seems a bit excessive.

It was either that or suspend Cotter for the playoffs. In that case the Devils are done either way, right? This gives another team a chance. ;)
This is some 4D chess by the league, their ability to realize the Devils wouldn't succeed without Cotter and their subsequent decision to take their playoff spot away is amazing.

It just make sense to give it someone that could put it to better use.
