Can the leafs make it work? What would they be sending back?

If there is one guy who can show the Leafs how to win in the playoffs, it’s Kane.
Yes, with retention and a Kerfoot or Engvall or Holl going back - it could happen.

Personally, I just don’t see Kane as a Leaf.

That depends is Chicago taking back, Kerfoot?, Engvall?, Holl? at least one of them would need to be part of the deal, preferably Kerfoot because of has the highest cap hit.

If Chicago is willing to do that then it can go from there.

Don't see him waiving his NMC for Toronto.

Why not he's in Chicago, the Leafs are tied for #2 in points, they have arguably the #2 player in the entire league in Auston Matthews and if he's not #2 he's no lower than #4.

There is no legitimate reason not to waive.

He strikes me as the not wanting to play in Canada type but who knows. Ultimately wanting to play somewhere else is all the legitimate reasons he needs.

And even after all that, can you believe the devotion he would get to be the player that gets the Leafs past the first round and maybe further? Patrick would instantly become the number 1 boy name out of births for the next decade. Seems like it'd be a great setup for him. No idea why he wouldn't waive.

Is anyone sure if Kane actually wants to be traded? He seems to almost be ready just to retire and join the Blackhawks front office. He has some family in Buffalo and the theme from them is that he is pretty satisfied with his career already and may just want to ride out this year in Chicago and go from there.

I think playing in Canada for one Cup run is quite different than signing here which isn't an issue. I've heard it said he's big on Matthews but at worst he's feeding JT and Nylander. Plausible.

It's a given we'd want to send Kerfoot back for maximum Cap savings if we haven't traded him ourselves.

I'd say our first and most prospects are on the table but unless he picks Toronto we probably aren't able to offer the best package.

I personally thinks he is our ideal add but he has complete control so it's barely worth talking about.

Honestly I am on the Kane bandwagon.

Tarasenko is my first choice but something about Kane just gets me too hype.

But trading for Kane is tricky, because even though his stats are down and his advanced stats are dog-shit this year, Chicago ain't going to give him away for cheap.
