They probably would, but I want to use him to acquire another 1st rounder. No chance we pick up their 11th pick unless we're also giving up our 17th+Lecavalier, and I don't see any reason to do that.

If Ehlers is there, I make that trade immediately.

Salary relief and ability to get a player like him would be all I need.

In reality, I don't think Nashville does it.

Button has Ritchie ranked 16th, god I would be excited if we could grab him at 17. Doubt it.

Fair enough. I just don't see Ehlers being there, though. All the teams in the 5-10 range could use a guy like him.

Otherwise, I don't see any drop from 11 to 17. There's a strong chance the Flyers have the guy they would take at 11 available at 17 because of how wide open this draft is.

You can...only when you have a shortage of wingers

As of now... we don't have any of our defensive prospects playing in the NHL. Ghost (although I don't think this will happen) may bust or at least not live up to expectations, Morin still needs time to develop and Hagg/Alt are still relative wild cards in terms of what we know they will do at the NHL level.

As for the wing position, we only really lack a good top line LW for Giroux, which is much easier to obtain than a top pairing defenseman. I understand the need for wingers in the system, but even with a good group of D-prospects I still think we need more defenseman.

Until I see some of our d-prospects making progress in the NHL, I want to keep draft defenseman. Of course if the BPA player is a winger and no defenseman is that appealing then sure by all means draft the winger. But, I'd rather target the position that is more of a need at the NHL, not the prospect pool.

I am currently doing a mock draft in a thread in the mock draft forum. With my first pick I drafted Kapanen, and with my next pick I drafted Milano. Don't ask me how I got two first round picks. I am not really enamoured by any of the defenseman in this draft outside of Ekblad.

Fleury would be the only Dman i would take if somehow he's available at 17 if not then a forward.

i'm surprised to see him list virtanen so low.

Tuch at 32 is a surprise for me. Flyers should get a very nice player at 17. But no matter who they grab at that point we are looking at a few years before they make the club. But you just never know. One of the kids I hope they select there would be Dylan Larkin. The kid plays a lot of left wing and would be a nice fit on the club.

And just think, this year Schenn could fill that void for all we know. And then who knows, maybe Akeson develops more of a scoring touch and moves up. AND, Ryan could fill the spot in another year too.

ANC that is why you take the BPA because where we are picking, if the kid does make it, chances are it's in a few years and the team looks totally different. But I think we all agree, we don't need to draft a C.

Larkin seems like a Flyers type pick in the mold of Laughton, Richards, Williams. Projected 2nd/3rd line tweener which could surprise with more upside (as Richards and Williams did). I wouldn't be upset if they reached for Sanheim either. Seems like he is going the way Morin was last year.

So in this year's edition of "the local boy", we have Anthony DeAngelo who grew up a Flyers fan. Put up some prolific numbers in Sarnia, and also had an eight game suspension handed to him for using a slur...against a teammate.

No clue where he'd go. Definitely wouldn't consider him at 17, but if he's on the board at 48, I'd give him some thought depending on who else is there. Pretty redundant skill set with Ghost knocking on the door, but it couldn't hurt to pick up another D prospect with some obvious skill. Don't think he'll be there for that pick, but character issues have been known to sink picks before, so it's not out of the question.

I wouldn't mind it, could be a really good value pick at #48 if that were to happen. In terms of pure skill he's probably towards the top of the draft & more importantly he's a right handed shot.

Suspended TWICE for slurs, one against a teammate that his own team brought to the league. He sounds like a great guy. I could see Simmonds pounding him out on a regular basis.

It was never made public but their entire team was white. There were a couple of Russians on the team but other than it was mostly Canadians & Americans.

Do they suspend for homophobic slurs? Because I think all of us who are from this area or grew up in this area have on numerous occasions either heard (or growing up used themselves) such a slur in the context of "Man, you're acting like a punk" or "that call was cheap" with the word punk or cheap replaced with a slur that would be considered homophobic.

They do.

I would imagine they can but I doubt it's reported much.

I would imagine if it was that than he was really carrying on & acting like **** & somebody just that as way to punish him. I mean like it or not but they're used frequently in sports & pretty much tolerated unless it's blantant to where even the public can hear/see it & force those in charge hand (Examples: Kobe, Hibbert, Escobar, etc.).

this draft is gonna be

pretty good depth. no high end guys like macinnon or mcdavid. but if you play your cards right, you can trade down and fleece somebody.or take bpa and make out well.

just wait till these guys hit their prime, a guy like ehlers will turn out very similar to a guy like fiala. do not trade up for ehlers when you can sit back and have fiala fall into your lap. even a guy like barbashev could turn out as good as ehlers.

i am not picking on ehlers, but he is just a top 10 guy that i can use for comparisons.i do not see anyone from this draft class finish in the top 5 in nhl scoring, but a lot of teams will get good 1st,2nd, 3rd liners from this draft.

and as far as the 3 italians, i would rank them fiala first fabbri 2nd and milano 3rd. i would not take milano at 17, he is too erratic, enigmatic for my likings. he could be a bust. and if you say he could be a home run, well so could about 6 others sitting their at 17.

Why would say he is erratic or enigmatic? Honestly i read alot about him, even his cons as a player but this is the first time I ever read that about him.

I'd take him over Fabbri .

Also homeruns are different. Milano, skill wise, is probably one of the best in the draft. Its the other shortcomings (such as height and defensive play) that he gets hate for.

Milano for sure...Nick Richie would be good also.

Sanheim is very impressive, he's got a short track record but despite it being limited it's still impressive. He's just scratching the surface here. He's got a big frame (6'3") & still has room to grow when he fills out (he currently weighs 190 lbs.). He skates like the wind & has excellent puck skills. He has potential to be the best defensemen out of this class when all is said & done in my opinion.
