It'd be great if the Flyers can draft an American forward so when he becomes an all-star and an Olympian I have even more reason to watch the games. It's kinda tough to want any team to win if they don't have any Flyers on it.

I'll take Gostisbehere.

Will the Flyers finally take a European in the first round?

I keep watching this video hoping he's the guy we go with if he's there:

That's some electrifying talent. Maybe he's more of a risky pick, but I'll take that kind of talent on my team any day. I trust the staff to make the right pick, but this kid's turning into my favorite player in this draft.

I've been in love with Milano since I really started the process of looking at the prospects in our range. Normally, I start off liking a set of players and eventually end up wanting someone else as I read, watch and think more. This is the first year I can remember liking a guy at the start and wanting him more and more as I watched him and others.

That said, I also have a sense he goes in the 13-16 picks right before we select. Really hope I'm wrong.

You guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment

Don't get too attached because you know the Flyers are going to throw a curveball at you as soon as you do and they'll reach with their pick or something.

I want to pick him too, though.

Oh for sure they will haha. Other than Couturier, the past few drafts we have taken a player ranked quite a few spots below our pick. Thats why i keep saying for people to look at players ranked from 20-30. Take a look at two-way players or big players. I really hope they break the trend and go for some high skilled wonger who may or may not be small just to add sone skill on our wings. Two way players are nice but I wouldnt mind a skilled winger.

That being said they have the same scouts and such so I dont think theyll change their philosophy.

I fully expect to hear brandon lemieux's name called.

Not necessarily. IIRC the Flyers were really high on Teravainen in '12, and would have drafted him if he fell to their spot (so close).

yeah tt and tom wilson were the two they wanted. The players that went right before laughton might haunt us for a while. TT hertl and vasil

I think when it comes to smaller, skilled prospects, they look to see if he has some snarl/toughness in his game.

Milano has that. Giroux has it. I don't think they're averse to taking skilled guys up front, but they can't be "soft".

Meh, I am frankly tired of passing on the better player because if some indication that a player may be "soft" (which I think is a tag thrown around to a lot of young, slight-of-build players or, often, European). Toughness is an important factor, but not more important than a skill like "puts flat, circular, rubber objects into netted areas with amazing proficiency".

I've seen a lot of Lemieux and he's a chip off the ol' block. I'd rather move up in the 2nd round and grab him if he's there than pick him at 17, but i wouldn't mind having him as a prospect. He improved by leaps and bounds this year. PITA to play against..

I hope they can pull off a trade for the panthers first like they did for the 4th overall for rusty back in the day. Clarke must of had something good on Espo and cashed it in that day.

Send vinny back to the sunshine state with a schenn or two. Florida always needs salary

Craig Button's list is released:

http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=49649

Some highlights:
-Virtanen at 43
-Sanheim at 8
-Milano at 20
-Vlad Kemenev (who?) at 12
-Fabbri at 28
-Tuch at 32
-HoSang at 29
-McKeown at 51

Pretty interesting. This is the kind of draft that lends itself to some highly subjective rankings, though, so I'll hold off on saying it's not a good list. As we saw in Flight Plan, NHL teams have some pretty unexpected rankings, too.

Yeah Virtanen's the real surprise on that list (he and Sanheim), but Virtanen didn't have a dominant year like some of the other prospects. I suppose Button considers him to be a lot more raw potential than substance which is fair I guess. He's had much more extensive access to Virtanen than I've had, so who am I to judge. Just interesting how the Canucks are rumored to have strong interest in him at 6 while someone else can watch him and have him all the way down at 43.

Sanheim had an incredible 2nd half of the year. I saw the stats for him after December and he was playing some of the best hockey among defense in the draft IIRC. not all that surprised he put him high. Wouldn't mind the flyers taking him at 17

i like lemieux a lot actually. The dude has flyer all over him but 17 would be too high. I think he goes to chicago or boston sadly.

i don't think you we can add such a high pick to our d prospect pool while neglecting our dearth of forwards. If he is by far the best player on our board at 17 then go for it but only then.

From what I read on him, seems like one of those safe players. Two scouting reports have him as his ceiling as a 2nd pairing defender.

At 17 I think its important to go for more potential. Especially on the wing.

A little surprised to see Sanheim so high here, although I thought he was better than a 2nd rounder like so many people were saying; 8 is a big jump. With all the teams that need D, who knows where he ends up. I don't think I'd be uncomfortable with him at 17 if our scouts like him. He's got all the tools, and I can see him getting better & better if things go right. Sanheim in the first and Virtanen in the 2nd? Pipe dream, but I'll take it!

Or if they decide to go with a forward in the first round, McKeown in the 2nd would be awesome.

You never know with the Flyers though. We may reach again, like we did with Laughton. With these rankings all over the place all year, I wouldn't be surprised.

I seriously want them to take a forward, I'd honestly be kinda disappointed to see another defender when we need forward prospects so badly. Ideally, they take high potential forwards with the 1st and 2nd round picks and then maybe a goalie and the rest are defenders.
