@TheNHLFiles: The Panthers seem interested to package some of their young guys & 1st overall for an impact player or two to help right now & a lower pick.

Barkov + 1 for Voracek + 17

We can't involve Giroux, Couturier, Voracek, or Simmonds.

If we make a hole with one of those guys, we'd have to draft a forward to offset it.

We can't turn this into another JVR for LSchenn situation.

EDIT:

However, if Florida is interested in Gudbranson + 1 OV for Coburn + Read + 17 OV, you have to think about something like that. We'd probably have to add something, but I'm not really willing to add something significant. Cousins or Leier if Florida needs offense. Raffl? McGinn? Akeson?

Coburn and Read are solid players that can help Florida win now. They get the 17th overall.

We get a Coburn replacement down the line in Gudbranson and get to draft Ekblad.

Our future defense is now:

Ekblad - Gudbranson
Ghostisbehere - Morin
Hagg - Schenn

:)

Dreaming is fun.

Here's an article/video on DeAngelo from CSNPhilly. In the article it confirms that the Flyers did interview him at the combine so I guess there's at least some interest there in DeAngelo from their end.

http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-phi...et-highly-touted-nj-prospect-anthony-deangelo

I would guess that unless someone they really have higher drops, the Flyers will select DeAngelo.

1. Flyers utilize fancystats. DeAngelo has great fancystats numbers.
2. Flyers writer on twitter was talking about DeAngelo for days...then all of a sudden suggested they weren't likely to take him.
3. Ed Snider takes a bunch of prospects for a skate. The top 5 ranked guys and DeAngelo.

It doesn't make it a sure bet...but where there is smoke...

Hextall has talked at length about character, which is the biggest knock against DeAngelo.

I hate myself for gradually becoming focused on Milano. When the Flyers don't draft him tomorrow or if he gets drafted before 17, I'll be angry ... and have no reason for being so.

I won't be angry if he goes before 17, at least then I know the Flyers couldn't have done anything about it. I'll really only be furious if he gets picked by the Penguins.

Wait...you wouldn't do Voracek+17 for Barkov AND the 1st overall? Who cares about positional needs if you are getting that type of value. Barkov becomes the 2nd most valuable asset in the organization and you draft Ekblad. You could trade Schenn and Laughton and you'd still have the ability to roll Giroux/Barkov/Couturier down the middle.

We get the better of the deal, sure, but who will play wing? The center that we then take 1st OV just because "**** it"?

You get whatever winger in the league you want through trade? It's a moot point anyway because Florida wouldn't touch that with a 1,000 ft. pole. Not to mention you can draft Ekblad and solve the biggest issue with this team.

3-5 years from now without dealing centers for wingers just because...

Schenn-Giroux-X
X-Barkov-Simmonds
X-Couturier-Read
X-Laughton-Raffl

Ekblad-Ghost
Morin-Coburn
Schenn-Hagg

At least you recognize the value is in our favor.

In a draft like this it's really hard to get fixated on a player even if you want to since it's so damn close. I have Milano a top of my wish list but I have 10 or so other players that I'm totally fine with as well so I don't think I'll be initially mad like the previous two years.

I'm just so susceptible to the suggestions on these boards when it comes to prospects. The big plus is this franchise's success with 1st rounders, even late in the round. I'm still not sold on Morin, though, but that's another issue.

I'm with pretty much the rest of the planet when I hope the Flyers stay far away from Ho-Sang, and DeAngelo makes me anxious with the local ties. I'm not partial to Tuch because the Flyers don't need another winger who's biggest asset is size.

Like I've posted before, I'd be giddy about getting Barbashev, along with Milano, Fiala and Fabbri.

I have no skin in the game. I just know the fancystat guy, read twitter and make assumptions. Could be totally off base....but don't be shocked.

Doesn't Barkov play wing too?

I doubt Panthers would trade Barkov for Voracek.
let alone downgrading from 1st to 17th.

The only deal id be interested in dealing couturier for would be something like

Coburn
Couturier
Hagg
1st (17th overall)

For

1st overall
Barkov

Then you can sign someone like Stralman to replace Coburn.

Schenn-Giroux-Voracek
Umberger-Barkov-Simmonds
Bellemare-Laughton-Read
Rinaldo-xxxx-Raffl

Streit-Stralman
Timonen-Ekblad
Schenn-MacDonald

Mason
xxxx

Stralman isn't a first pairing guy and a Coburn replacement. In NY McDonagh-Girardi took all the hardest assignments.
