I just hope we don't lose sight of the fact that we need to continue to draft good forwards. I think we got a good influx of D last year. But look at Nashville, top heavy on D, weak on forwards. Just like we were top heavy on O and, D deficient

You can never have enough defense. They are far and away the most difficult thing to aquire. Sanheim, please!

However, there is a pretty big difference between our defense and their defense. Their Defense has Shea Weber and Roman Josi and NOW Seth Jones who anyone would have taken at 4 not just Nashville. And that is the difference between us.

Unlike Nashville... how many defenseman do we have playing on our roster that have top tier potential and are ready for bigger roles...none. We just have a collection of prospects two of which have top pairing potential (ghost and Morin) and they are great and all... but right now they are just prospects so we don't know how they will turn out. What happens if Morin busts or becomes your run of the mill big #6 defenseman... ya our prospect pool doesn't look so hot. I am just saying that you can never have enough good defenseman prospects in our situation. I am fine with drafting a forward, but I wouldn't reach for one if your favorites are off the board like Fiala, Kapanen, Milano, Fabbri, etc.

Ekblad could be the future anchor for this team for years to come. He's super mature, his game is elite, he's already built for the NHL (and may play this very next year) -- if he falls at all -- worth the phone call.

I am definately in favor of a trade up for Eckblad if he drops to 3.
I am not willing to give up the farm for him but, Coburn, Laughton and #17 is not too much for a NHL ready young Dman.

He probably could play 3rd pairing minutes for Flyers this year, our other Dman prospects are still 2+ years away probably.

I don't exactly know Edmonton's opinion of Ekblad. But, if Ekblad is there guy and they hope falls to them, why would they trade that pick away?

It is like if Andrew Wiggins fell to the Sixers at 3, why would be trade our pick? They wouldn't.

So trading for #3, might not be possible anyway if Ekblad slips.

Yes it is. It's way too much. Ekblad may be NHL ready, but he's 3 years away from being a game changer if he ever becomes a game changer. Moves like this can set a franchise back a half-decade or more.

Lawless is Wpg Timmy P.

Brayden , Vinny, Luke , 17 for 1st & rights to Kulikov.

That seems like a total screw job for Florida.

If his game was elite, why would they even think about trading the pick?

weird how hes rated all over the board. mckenzie had him rated 24 while button ranked him 8... maybe split the difference and we get him at 17!
Button's rankings are only based on his opinion of the player. McKenzie's are based on a consensus of scouts (at least 10 I believe). Add in the fact that after 7 or so, there are a ton of guys grouped together, so the range in votes could skew things.

I think he would be a reach at 3.

Just draft a Simon Gagné, a Mike Richards or a Claude Giroux at 17. We're good with picks around 20.

On the flip side, they have mostly 2nd-3rd line forwards. It is not like they have had more success than us. They have a great defense with a great goalie...but can not score goals.

You can never have enough defender prospects but you can have too few forward prospects. We need to start restocking snd getting ready to slot them in. Only so long where we keep relying on finding gem undrafted FA's.

Button had the Flyers taking McCarron at 17 on the mock draft NHL network did last night.

Physical two center 6 ft 200lbs. Sounds like another Laughton.

I'll drive to Philly and burn down WCF if they take another two way center.

FWIW: Button nailed the Morin pick last year I believe, not that it was some secret or anything.

There was a segment on DeAngelo on sports rise this morning. Hopefully he is there when the Flyers pick in 2nd round. A stretch, I know, but we'll see.

Why does everyone get angry when the Flyers are interested in a center? These guys are 4-6 years away from making a major impact on our team and by that time you have no idea how the team will look. This is why almost all teams draft best player available. They have a need for immediate wingers on the roster so this draft won't even provide that relief either. We need to draft whoever is BPA no matter what position they play.

I'd say that's the case when you're picking in the top ten. The ratings become a lot more fuzzy when you start getting later into the first round and on. It's more than accpetable to start to look at team needs if you're trying to make a choice between two prospects of similar rating.

Wing may be an immediate need, but it's still going to be a need in 2-3 years as well. Voracek, Read and Simmonds are the only natural wingers on the roster.

Yeah no reason to do anything but BPA unless there is an NHL ready player, which there won't be unless we move up. I'd prefer the team draft a forward over a d-man, but these guys are so far away from making an impact it doesn't matter

Hextall used the term 'separation' to describe the distance between players and said it isn't great in this draft once you get away from the beginning of the round. The gist of it was: If everything is equal between the players, then you may draft for positional need, but if not, then take the best player, but there is a special case: If you're near the higher end talent, you may take a higher end guy who also fills a need, even if someone near him is slightly higher rated, because of how it helps the team.

I agree with that position as well. If a winger and a center are valued the same to our management team then you should take the winger because of need. If the winger is valued less though and we pass up on the center who is considered a higher ceiling or better prospect I would not be happy. Homer said the same thing last year when drafting Morin, he said he would take a defenseman probably if a forward and defender of the same value were available because of need. I don't have any problem with that but if there is a clear cut better player where we draft, we need him to be drafted regardless of position.

I just want Ehlers. Hopefully he falls out of the top 7 or so and the Flyers make a solid effort to move up or get another top pick somehow(maybe Coburn to Toronto, Nonis is dumb). Nylander would also be a great addition to our prospect pool due to his offensive game and skating. I would target these two players. I think like Tallon..... not sure if that's a good thing or not haha.
