Personally, I'd take a risk on Ho-Sang if he's as skilled as some are saying, but not with our 1st round pick. Maybe use our 2nd to try to trade up to a late 1st or early 2nd if he's still there. If it's not with our 1st round pick I'd rather take a risk on a very talented player that needs to change his attitude than a mature player who might never make it to the NHL or projects as a merely decent player. If not Ho-Sang then I'd take DeAngelo.

There are lots of other good players without character issues we could take.

No, we would probably miss the playoffs with Coburn gone and MacDonald on the 1st pairing.

I'd wager Hextall would gamble losing one season of playoffs for a potential franchise defenseman. Hextall knows how important they are and has said as much. Puts his stamp on the team.

A future of:

Ekblad/Morin/Ghost/Hagg is a beautiful thing.

Yeah no thanks, I rather not break in multiple young players on defense over these next few years without Coburn back there.

There's more to it than just winning games.

It's gotta be rebuilt anyhow, might as well get started on it.

It is being rebuilt. Hagg, Gostisbehere, Morin, and Alt. Coburn is still in his prime years.

What people need is patience to stay the course. Flyers need more homegrown players. That package for the third overall pick is too much.

I honestly believe the Flyers are one of those teams that have Ho-Sang under "Do not draft". He just doesn't strike me as a player their scouts would like on & off the ice.

I could see them taking a shot on DeAngelo though. His defensive game needs a lot of work but on top of his high offensive skill set he's pretty fiesty for an undersized player. The Flyers took a shot on Downie back in the day & he had similar issues with teammates except instead of verbally abusing them he did it physically. I think that was Button's rationale in his mock draft for us when he had him going to us.

DeAngelo interviewed with teams at the combine & there wasn't any negative blow back to my knowledge. He did an interview on TSN where he admitted he F'd this year & how he still has work to do on & off the ice so we'll see he's at least saying the right things at the moment but ultimately he'll have to walk the walk.

I just hope we don't lose sight of the fact that we need to continue to draft good forwards. I think we got a good influx of D last year. But look at Nashville, top heavy on D, weak on forwards. Just like we were top heavy on O and, D deficient

In Hexy's presser this week, he talked a bit about character being very important when drafting players. I think there's no chance at all we draft him.

As far as DeAngelo, I don't know if I see us grabbing him in the first. We know Hexy likes size, and with Ghost already here as an undersized dman, I think they'd probably more comfortable with a forward. If he drops to the 2nd round I'd certainly love to grab him though. He's got a much better chance of maturing and becoming an NHLer than Ho-Sang by far.

And just because we get a defensemen 2 years in a row doesn't mean we're going to become Nashville. We have Schenn, Coutuier, Laughton, Leier, all under the age of 22 still.

Yeah, DeAngelo's attitude issues are the kind I would chalk up to being an overzealous teenager. HoSang's attitude issues may be more fundamental than that, and then there's the on-ice play that I don't care for either.

In my books, DeAngelo would be okay (just not at 17). JSH would not.

The concept of LeCavalier to Nashville for a swap of positions in round one makes sense. Nashville isn't giving up too much to get a guy that could really help them and the Flyers get a shot at a better forward than they'd get at 17.
If they stick at 17, Kempe would be a good choice.

Ekblad could be the future anchor for this team for years to come. He's super mature, his game is elite, he's already built for the NHL (and may play this very next year) -- if he falls at all -- worth the phone call.

I wouldn't make DeAngelo the centerpiece of my draft at #17 but if we acquired a late first round pick or if he fell to our second round pick I wouldn't mind taking him.

I only brought up Button because he mentioned something along the lines that we don't mind taking players like DeAngelo who have baggage & I believe he was hinting at Downie who had similar issues in juniors & was known as a hot head.
