I just don't want to see our forwards get older and still no chance in sight. Atleast in the top 5 the player will make the team quicker then if we pick at 17.

GREAT article on Ho-Sang. This is the exact reason why I dont want him and luckily I am pretty sure Hexy wont put up with that crap. The kid might be a very good player in the future but something is wrong in the head.

It’s entirely possible — maybe even closer to probable — that the most naturally gifted player available will not be selected in the first 30 picks.
According to sources, numerous NHL teams have Ho-Sang on their Do Not Draft List.
And only 18 of 30 teams chose to interview him at the recent NHL Combine — and many came away stunned and disappointed.

Very well written article if anyone wants a very good read.

I find it amazing that the people around him (whether it be his agent or family members) who I am assuming had to read that article before it was publicized thought that was a good thing to go through with that.

He comes off as an absolute crazy person who's far out of touch with reality in that article.

What's funny is that it will either make him a more bitter and selfish person, or maybe get him to shape the **** up and act like a team player. More than likely the former.

Sounds like he just has a chip on his shoulder. He's confident, even a little cocky. So what? Why are hockey fans, executives, and the hockey world in general so obsessed with guys having personality?

Because "If you don't fit, you quit."

If he falls to the second round I'd think that you would have to move up to take him. You don't want the risk it in the first round, but in the beginning of the second I absolutely would move up for him.

He's just a kid still, you just hope that a good organization can make him feel more comfortable. He seems like he feels the world is against him, so if you show him that it isn't hopefully he comes around. Plus if he really is worried about the color of his skin clashing with the sport, we have Simmonds to mentor him.

Flyers pick at 17 right? And this kid is arguably the most talented in the draft? You pick him at 17 then. Seriously, Billy Tippets jr. he isn't, or Kevin Stevens, so I hope they do it.

The problem is the kid thinks he's Gretzky when he has holes in his game & has a hard time accepting criticism.

That article is a train wreck. He throws his teammates under the bus, accuses his current GM of being a racist along with everybody else that doubts him, claims he'll fully fulfill his duties as a hockey player when he gets paid, etc.

Here's what Mark Edwards who posts on here & works for Hockeyprospect.com had to say:
The article just scratches the surface based on what numerous NHL teams told me all year long. I'll leave it at that. At the end of the day, myself and our two Ontario based scouts are not fans of him on the ice and the off ice stuff just adds to it. Windsor thought they could change the way he plays, they couldn't. I can't see an NHL team changing him either.

I fully understand Ho-Sang on the 'do not draft' list. This kid isn't just a square peg, he's like trying to fit a sea urchin into a keyhole.

If he can't admit fault, and blames all of his problems on the people surrounding him, he'll never improve his game. And you can't scrape by on talent alone in the NHL.

You really think that a player who throws his coach and teams under the bus will get respect from them? Who want a cancer like that on this team. We have seen MANY talented players who's head was messed up and couldnt make it. Seriously other than really E. Kane who seems like a good guy compared to him, what talented NHLer is both crazy and extremely good?

Yeah, and Radulov is one of the most talented players in the world, but no NHL teams are falling over themselves to lure him back.

I think the best thing for him is if he falls to the second round. Hopefully for his sake it serves as a wake up call & humbles him. He can either use it to motivate himself on & off the ice to get better or he can continue to think everybody's out to get him & make excuse after excuse for as to why that is. He is still 18 so change isn't out of the question but he still has a lot of growing up to do.

I think he also just punched his ticket out of Windsor with this article.

You people saying pick him are so lol. He will not play within a system. His play away from the puck is awful and his play with the puck is selfish. The vast majority of people that know him have way too many negative things to say about him. No one needs his Terrell Owens-type bullcrap. Stop being gullible.

Yeh, look at Zherdev as well, he was insanely skillfull... could score 60 points a year while not giving two ***** half the time, but could not stick in the NHL.

Yeah, if HoSang had a modicum of desire to compete and battle, I think he is a challenger for first overall. Unfortunately, his stripes won't be changing into spots any time soon. Some things can be acquired, but being disengaged is not a quality I have ever seen a player change.

Try to trade up to around 10-11 and hope Ehlers falls there. Take him and we have a stud who can skate like the wind and is a damn good player.

I think he'll be gone by then personally, I think he's one of the players Florida will potentially target if they move back from #1.

Yea, rumor is they like him and Nylander. I wouldn't mind either. I would like to move up around #8 or so to get a chance at both. Ehlers might be gone by 6 though, praying he falls and we move up.

First liners have never been picked at 17th overall or lower?

Not what I said.
I just wanted to point out that it would be stupid to draft player A because he potentially fits better with Giroux instead of player B.

I'm also quite certain that historically picks at #17 are more likely to become 3rd or 2nd line players rather than first liners.

Eckblad worth trading up for?

If Eckblad does not get drafted in first 2 picks, would it be worth trading some assets and our#17 pick to move up to #3 overall.

Oilers have inquired about Coburn in the past, perhaps they would be willing to drop to #17 if we gave them Coburn, #17 overall + prospect.

Anybody in favor of moving up for Eckblad or is that too much to give up for #3rd overall in your opinion?

Personally, I'd take a risk on Ho-Sang if he's as skilled as some are saying, but not with our 1st round pick. Maybe use our 2nd to try to trade up to a late 1st or early 2nd if he's still there. If it's not with our 1st round pick I'd rather take a risk on a very talented player that needs to change his attitude than a mature player who might never make it to the NHL or projects as a merely decent player. If not Ho-Sang then I'd take DeAngelo.

As far as trading up in the 1st, I wonder what it would realistically take to move from 17th to around 8... probably more than it's worth.
