Would be cool to see him get a nice little round of applause regardless of where he's drafted... That said, I hope it's not us that drafts him. I don't really see him as much more than a 2-way 2nd-3rd line winger. Something we have plenty of.

Also, and mentioning this may be sacrelig, but with Hextalls pension for players with speed, and managements apparent fondness of Laughton and Schenn, could there be a chance that Hextall may move Couturier to move up? Not saying I want them to, but I wonder if it's been discussed...

I just watched the whole Hextall presser posted on the Flyers site. As expected, the moving up stuff is way overblown. He pretty much states he'd move up if it were warranted, or move down if warranted. In no way did he "strongly hint" at moving up. Flyers beat writers continue to attention-***** for web hits.

You must be thinking he plays the game like his father did which is not entirely how it is. He does have his father's speed, but he's definitely almost a pure sniper, not a grinder like his father was.

Wonder if DeAngelo will fall to our pick in the 2nd round. He had some serious issues but it might be worth it to consider taking a risk on him for a 2nd round pick.

I think it would be incredible -- in all senses of the word -- if DeAngelo were to fall to the Flyers in the 2nd round. He's a player they might consider moving up in the 2nd to get, especially with him being a local boy. Then again, with his black marks on his record, playing close to home might not be a good thing.

Speaking of DeAngelo, Craig Button projected that the Flyers choose him with their first pick. :shakehead Button touted his excellent offensive play; a "dynamic defenseman who can really get the puck moving forward and creates offense". James Duthie noted DeAngelo's suspension problems, and that he fell out of the top 30 on MacKenzie's list, but added that "would fit right into that Philadelphia mentality."

My fave Barbashev falls to the Canadiens at 26, which I attribute to Button looking to give the best player to a Canadian team by having less interesting (hint, hint) clubs choose a worse player. Milano, by the way, was taken at #16 in Button's projection.

I'd love DeAngelo in the second round...I'd even consider trading up in the second round to get him.

But at 17? Absolutely not.

I think he'll be an enigmatic NHLer which is still better than what many of these guys will be. He's also been playing major juniors for three years and has been playing with the big kids since he was a 15 year old in the USHL, so he's got some years of development already.

Hopefully Craig's wrong this go around. ;)

Hextall spent maybe 5 minutes tops with De Angelo during the interview. He wasn't that impressed IMO, he doesn't fit his description for a big defenseman, but he can move the puck very well.

Several pick projections just have to be taken with a tablespoon of salt. The top 5 will take some brainpower and all of the Canadian teams should be well devised, but this one seems to be a "he's from the Philly area, he's an offensive defenseman and he's a headcase. Next."

Yep, take a chance on him in the 2nd round, burning a 3rd if they have to, but no way I would make DeAngelo my pick at 17.

I think Milano's play-bigger-than-my-size is definitely something that would be very valuable to this team. Giroux does it and it pays off too.

from what ive seen his ridiculous reach has a lot to do with the plays-bigger-than-his-size evaluation. uses his body and that reach really well. gets in great position between puck and defender. great hands/puck skills,obviously...would be really happy if we got him. special talent.

I would love to see what he can do...maybe another Subban...dont snub him if he got the skills, kid can learn. I would take him at #17.

I feel sorry for the kid. if he was an athlete in any other sport his personality would be accepted but in hockey the moment you show any sort of wit , personality, or cockiness you start rubbing people the wrong way.

They want canadian hockey boys to score , fight, lead and then when the mic is in front of their face say it was a team effort blah blah blah and anything from the norm is shunned. Its sad to see so many teams with such poor quality on the ice stray away from such a clearly talented kid. He won't be the first kid that slides due to off ice politics and he won't be the last. If florida comes away in this draft with ekblad and ho sang they have done mighty fine for themselves.

Flyers beat writers overblow EVERYTHING they possibly can for attention. I saw Isaac's tweet and then watched the presser and wasn't surprised one bit to see no hints at all. Hextall is very vocal about his thoughts and philosophy on the game and I think he enjoys sharing it. He simply stated where he felt this draft fell off and how the process works trading up or down. It really just seemed like he was interested in informing others what variables come into play.

Flyers beat writers are pretty ridiculous.

I love how open Hextall is about his opinion. Nice to actually hear the rationale and motives in a thought-out, articulate manner.

Listening to Holmgren was painful at times.

Definitely agree. I enjoyed hearing everything he's said thus far. With Holmgren, it felt like he was trying to use less and less words in each response he had to make.

Holmgren's fall backs

What are you gonna do

It is what it is

I like our team (that is saddled with bad contracts)

Glad he got "promoted" :shakehead

I'll just copy an abridged version of what I said on the prospects board about HoSang:

My issue with HoSang is that he is completely lackadaisical when he's not sensing an offensive opportunity. The compete level is missing from his game.

Even if he's not going into the corners to battle for pucks, I want to see him reading plays and anticipating where the puck is going to go. Patrick Kane shouldn't be considered a "battler" by any means, but when he doesn't have the puck, you can see him reading the play, and he goes to areas that he anticipates the puck going to.

I truly believe he would be a first overall candidate if he had this quality. Unfortunately, history suggests this is not a trait that can easily be acquired, and it's also one that's critical for success. Zherdev and Radulov, while certainly extreme examples, shared the same reluctance to engage off the puck, and their immense skill sets never materialized into much at the NHL.

I'm not saying HoSang is doomed for failure, but it's not a head scratcher to me that many scouts have him as a "do not draft". Being engaged at all times is a prerequisite for maintained success in the NHL, and if you have trouble doing that, it doesn't matter how dynamic your skill set is.

He's not a "do not draft" because of his personality. Maybe he gets extra scrutiny because of his personality, but scouts aren't crossing him off lists because he's boisterous and self assured. He's crossed off lists because he simply doesn't have one of the major prerequisites for NHL success. Incredible talent, for sure, but so is Radulov. At the NHL level, it's not good enough to wait for the game to come to you and then slice through the opposition like he does in juniors. You need to actively engage yourself to get the puck. He just doesn't do that.

I get having some confidence & personality but Ho-Sang sounds like one delusional individual in that article. I don't think he'll ever have the mental make up to correct flaws in his life, anything that goes wrong for him in life will be somebody else's fault because he's god's gift to everybody.

I liked this part, why the hell wouldn't you show the same respect to the Windsor organization now?
“If a team picks me, gives me a contract and says you’re not allowed to be late once (he was late twice this season and missed a game for disciplinary reasons) or you’re not allowed to be this or that, I would follow every single rule. I love hockey more than anything in the world. I live, eat, sleep hockey. It’s my passion.

“If you’re going to pay me to do something I love, I’m going to go out there and produce for you so you’re going to have to pay me more.â€
