Perfect. see you then. Buhbye.

MAPLE LEAFS
217-6-1
The common refrain about this Maple Leafs team, "Wait and see what they can do in the playoffs." I hate that dismissal of regular season success. They rolling right now, and fans are supposed to sit on their hands for 82 games? Toronto is an incredibly fun team. It's OK to enjoy the journey to the postseason.

It's also ok to be skeptical without being called an idiot or not a true fan.
Why is it that if you're enjoying the season and the team so much you have to,convince others to do the same?

Not sure who called you an idiot. I also think you can be skeptical and enjoy the process.

Well, you are that guy - so wear it and own it if you say it. And no one can do anything bout "playoffs" in November. You can't win a series now.

The other 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 times "only the playoffs matter" has been said was enough, thank you.

Bro lay off him or he might NEVER "go all in"! Then what are we supposed to do??

What adversity are they currently going through?

Um see here's the thing - they have had their share of adversity over the years. The collapse against Montreal just being the latest, or maybe the rocky start to this season. But surely they have had a lot (coaches, overpaid prima donnas, unreliable back up goaltending). They have fought through it and are here now. The fact that currently there is no drama is because they have WORKED through their adversity and have EARNED their spot - as temporary as it might be. The media can't kiss their ass enough right now, but they will think up some drama in short order and it will be business as usual

I think the Leafs and their fans have all earned a reprieve from adversity

only that post didn't call anyone an idiot or question anyone's fandom.

I dont care about skepticism but being dismissive is akin to being a perpetual stone in a shoe.

I got a 1 month ban from the Avs forum for responding with a harmless jab to that 8-3 Avs prediction. I simply just said “You were so close chief! ;););)“ The poster actually liked my post.

The double standard is ridiculous.

I also noticed he's one of the guys who voted Tavares as a 4th line center in the "if he played on your team" poll thread. I really don't think he comes in good faith at all.

I think people misinterpret other posters when they say lets see what they can do in the playoffs. We know this team is built to compete well in the regular season, they have had moderate success for a few years now. I think you can say only the playoffs matter and still enjoy their success in the regular season, I think you can be skeptical of this team and still enjoy the regular season. I also think very few people care who the Presidents trophy winner is too. it seem like debates on the internet devolve into a binary argument, where you have two sides debating a winless position.

"Wait for the playoffs" is a pointless statement because every single Leaf fan is waiting for the playoffs. We all know what happened last year, and the year before that, and the year before that.

It's just that 99% of us are also able to take an interest in the team right now.

The idea that the regular season is entirely meaningless is either wrong or pretty massive criticism of how north american sports are organized - i.e. 90% of the games played every year are meanigless.

Yes and that's why many are skeptical about regular season results.

I read a few posts on the mainboards about us. Seems there are some fans that are trying to put the regular season means nothing, squarely on us. Some tidbits i remember reading, "The reg season doesn't matter to THEM." "The reg season doesn't matter to Toronto." Is this another label we are about to earn?

Yes and that's why many are skeptical about regular season results.

Without question everyone knows this. If they don't then they meet the definition of insanity as propositioned by Einstein. The players, management, the media and of course the fans all know this after 17 years of playoff futility.

As it were, I've had this "wait until the playoffs" approach my entire life, never been able to say "yeah we won it all" unless I was watching the Blue Jays or Raptors.

The regular season definitely isn't meaningless. More differently, life long fans like myself are more somber about how I analyze the team, so that players such as Ritchie may (not will) be a key component for this team well beyond the regular season. I take the same approach when looking at a player such as Kerfoot when others believe we were fleeced in a trade. I don't know Kerfoots value, but, I know he does his job well.

If the team was losing, it would be far worse of course, but I do definitely see a more focused, and "playoff-life" mentality by this team, coach and possibly even Dubas as he sees a strong team and understands a strong character such as Clifford is a smarter backup then say, a flashy one-way winger.

I'm being optimistic. I've been here before many times as a fan, one can only hope "this time it will be different".

You may be right, but personally I'd really like to see us win it.

It would be nice, but then again Presidents trophy winners rarely win the Cup. It however would translate into a lot less rant postings ;) , this place might be a little more bearable.
