Bjornfot has been alright. I’d go as far as saying he’s been better than I thought he’d be. Maybe if he can figure out the style we’re playing he could be an asset down the road.
People love to pick on Ekblad but he’s easily a top-2 defensemen on this team and he’s the only right-handed dman that we can put out there on a nightly basis. Kulikov shouldn’t be in the top-pair at this point in his career.
But, honestly, it’s hard to blame our lacking depth on defense. I just don’t see enough from these guys overall as of late. They have played a ton of hockey but that doesn’t mean we have to play like limp idiots. You can play with low energy and still make smart little plays.
Reinhart looks more like himself but was bad for a few weeks. Verhaeghe has shown flashes of himself but not quite consistent enough. Barkov has been good overall, however last game was terrible by him. Tkachuk and Bennett, I’m sorry but not good enough. Both of their styles of play rely on their effective aggressiveness and physicality and it’s either way too weak or waaaaay over the line. Lundell has been decent but would like a little more out of him.
I know these guys have another gear. I hope they know that too.
