Nonsense. He's the only athlete in Russia who is publicly critical of Putin's regime and supports Navalny. That takes some balls and makes him a target.
Nazarov is Putin's sycophant and is always trashing USA and EU as evil enemies of great Putin and Russia. I don't know whether Panarin beat that girl or not but you need to be completely delusional to think that Nazarov's statements now have nothing to do with Panarin's political stance.

I feel like if this were a court of law Nazarov would be deemed as a non-credible witness and would never make the witness stand.

Surprised how quickly the Rangers are refuting the allegations. By their own admission, they don't even know the source. It's one thing to put a player on leave while the team conducts its own internal investigation. But that's not what the Rangers are doing here.

The Rangers going HAM on this actually makes me even more confident that this is all nonsense.

He is NOT the only athlete who publicly criticized the current regime. I would say that the most courageous athletes criticize the regime WHILE living and earning in Russia. Now that's truly courageous.

I don't care about Nazarov, and I've written about it multiple times. If this incident never happened, then Panarin has NOTHING to worry about.

Hey guys - Isles fan checking in,

This is fishy AF. I am very skeptical that this story is legitimate. Obviously my condolences to you all as fans, but more than anything, I hope that 1) the truth gets out, and 2) presuming Panarin is in fact innocent, that he and his family are ultimately okay.

It goes without saying that if Panarin is guilty I sympathize with the victim, not the abuser. Waiting for more information...

Who else?

There is only one solution to all our problems that makes sense.

Drop Tony D into Moscow likes he's Snake Plissken and have him neutralize Nazarov and Putin.

"Somebody is going to beat these guys" - Tagline from "Escape from Moscow" staring Tony D as Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken as Herb Brooks.

I think my brain is officially broken.

If there were a police report from 2011 in Latvia, we would have heard about it a long time ago. Latvia at that time was already pretty much a part of western civilization, same as it is today.

It's is plausible though, that the victim and potential witnesses could be paid off, before the police got involved. That is the part of the story that has me a bit worried, because that is exactly what probably would have happened, if the story is true.

Lol, you don't know, what are you talking about. It's a part of EU, but it's still a former Soviet Republic. There are traditions, that impossible to beat for mere 20 years. I'm pretty sure no papers left as well, because they were destroyed. I doubt, police will confirm anything, because it would be the same as to plead guilty. The girl, though, they can probably find her.

But 40,000 euros makes no sense. Maybe 400 euros in that case. The whole thing doesn't make sense. What sort of an assault would be so bad that it would take 40,000 euros to pay off the authorities while still being something that could the handled with money?

Just realized the irony of an islanders fan calling something fishy

It happened in Riga, Latvia, not Russia. Latvia is a part of the EU, the free world. I would presume that the police are honest there. Maybe some Latvians on these boards could assure us of this.
