It’s one of two things for me. Either it’s a total lie made up to defame him after his anti-Putin rhetoric, or it’s true and they’ve sat on it for years waiting for him to get involved - as I would imagine Putin’s regime has a lot of experience with.

None of this information is reliable enough that it should be acted upon one way or the other.

It's time for our journalists to do their job and investigate. Considering the source(s) and Panarin's criticism of Putin I don't see how anyone takes this without a huge grain of salt.

I agree - none of us know what is going on with so little information, but my initial reaction is that this is complete bullshit. I hope I'm not proven wrong.

Panarin a large figure in Russia? Are you kidding me? Calling him a large figure in Russia makes no sense. People outside of the sports world might not even know about him. Please.
Whatever you say. Even if he isnt that famous hes still a large dissenting voice

Panarin is a fantastic hockey player, but he is definitely not a very bright individual. But, hopefully, he is surrounded by smart people who will guide him through this process.

I see no difference between Putin and Navalny apologists. If Navalny somehow comes to power (not gonna happen in the near future though), part of the elite will change, and it will abuse power in exactly the same manner. The smartest athletes don’t take sides.

I don’t like Nazarov as I already mentioned. He runs his mouth too much, but it doesn’t mean that this incident didn’t take place. Obviously, his account wouldn’t be enough to convict someone of committing a crime.

So much bullshit here

Let’s start with this - there’s a reason why testimony on the character of witness is admissible in court. Just based on this - Nazarov being the source - it’s mind boggling how Artemi is not given a full presumption of innocence before more facts come out.

Separately, putting Putin on even scale with ANY of his political opponents is outrageous. He’s done A LOT with his presidential powers to make himself and his inner circle multi-billionaires while most of the country barely survives to provide roof and food on a day by day basis. He also uses it to suppress and eliminate his opposition in big numbers. His favorite method - poisoning that he goes to time and time again. There’s a documented evidence that all but eliminates any doubt that he did it.

With all of this you coming here to be his apologist thought a doubt makes anything you say 100% certifiable bullshit. [MOD]

On a much more selfish level, while I'm happy I actually get to watch NHL hockey again amidst the pandemic - this season has been packed to the rim with so much uncertainty and speculation that if you told me we wouldnt have hockey at all this season if it meant we didnt have to deal with all this shit I'd say i'd wait.

Both fair points, but I'm only talking relative to the last calendar year lol. Both of those clusters first manifested themselves over a year ago.

Could throw in the Kakko protocols too, but thats a "normal" team's problem. We are SO above that.

Hockey is different here

Yes, but considering Russia' track record (i.e. Voynov), we're not exactly talking a question of them doing this out of a quest for justice no matter which way it is. The timing suggests it's certainly politically-motivated.

According to Nazarov, it happened in Latvia and officials were paid 40,000 to cover it up. What proof is going to exist either way? It's he said/she said unless police in Riga retained some kind of paperwork--but even then, that can easily be fabricated.

Panarin pissed off a lot of people in Russian hockey after he spoke out for Navalny, and Nazarov has been one of the most vocal over the last few weeks. And he's spoken negatively of Putin over the last few years as well.

None of it's good.

Weird. Would think Putin would have bigger fish to fry. And responding like this--if instigated by Putin-- shines more of a light on Panarin's criticism.
Totalitarianism doesn't usually work in a way where it's just the big boss sitting in his offices and making decisions for a country of 150 million people: who am I going to give favors to, who am I going to screw with a little so they have to kiss the ring, who's going to jail. Even North Korea might not really be like that.

There are sophisticated networks, formal and informal, of kiss-asses, strivers, local bosses that do most of the legwork with stuff like this.

No, he is not very bright. I speak Russian fluently, and I watched multiple interviews of Panarin. It's not a knock on him. Really. He grew up in a village and was raised by his grandpa, but nevertheless, he has already achieved more than 99% of HFBoards posters thanks to his athletic prowess. Kudos to him.

If you know of anyone who can snipe like him please speak up.

This team desperately needs some scoring

The Rangers, save for their lottery luck the past two drafts, have been on a really bad run in the past year.

They're rolling last February and March, then COVID hits. Just before that, the car accident with Shesterkin and Buchnevich.

Kakko and Lafreniere slow out of the gate.

Zibanejad getting COVID and stumbling out of the gate.

DeAngelo gate.

Trouba and Chytil injuries.

Now this.

Whatever is going on, I hope that the Panarin family stay safe and are able to get out of Russia.

The past year?!?!? They've been on bad run of luck for like their entire existence as a franchise.

Cherepanov could have been our OV, Mike Sauer, McDonagh nearly killing Zucc against Pittsburgh and probably cost us the Cup that year...

You call yourself a hockey fan? Do you even have a remote clue as to how much the Russians covet their professional atheletes? Artemi Panarin may be a relative unknown here in the United States but I can guarantee you that Artemi Panarin is a one of their higher profile national athletes, and the Russian love to love their best athletes........unitl they show dissent toward mother Russia that is...

And since there is a broad spectrum of rash reactions here, keep in mind the following are all likely true: (a) Rangers brass' thought about this long and hard and discussed with Panarin, (b) they likely did so with the league's council and input and not in isolation, and (c) none of these actions has any bearing on the liklihood or unlikilioooh of the allegations being true.

I think you may be overestimating Panarin’s influence and popularity. I doubt even Navalny knows who Panarin is or that he supports him.
I think you may be underestimating how much the Russians and their people covet their professional athletic stars.......especially those in hockey.
