I don't think that was their argument, that it would be okay to assault someone. I think they were being more forgiving given how much time has passed and that people can change, especially when it happens at those ages.

Like I don't agree with beating anyone up, male or female, but if in theory, this occurred in 2011, he got punished, learned from it, and has changed, why can't we also move on?

The only issue I'd have here if this story is true is if he got punished for it. If he hasn't then I'd have no issue in seeing him lose his job.

How did he get punished? He/they paid the girl off not to talk? Again, I'm not saying any of these accusations are true. But you can't have been punished if you never faced the music.

Panarin is a fantastic hockey player, but he is definitely not a very bright individual. But, hopefully, he is surrounded by smart people who will guide him through this process.

I see no difference between Putin and Navalny apologists. If Navalny somehow comes to power (not gonna happen in the near future though), part of the elite will change, and it will abuse power in exactly the same manner. The smartest athletes don’t take sides.

Even if "hes not very bright" I don't think hes stupid enough to make himself a large target by actively going against the Russian govt if he has a serious history of crime.
Also while this comparison of Putin and Navalny seems to be a false equivalence, even if it was why would he make himself a large target of the current regime who has a long history of silencing opponents.

As a Russian, I think it’s a bit ridiculous to suggest this is politically charged. At least until some new circumstances are revealed.
I follow the NHL, and while not the Rangers or Panarin personally, I wasn’t even aware Panarin was critical of Putin. I don’t think most people are.
Had it been a targeted piece, you’d think they had chosen someone other than Nazarov who’s been out of work for at least couple of years now and isn’t respected on any level.
I also wouldn’t hold anything against Panarin until any evidence is presented. I don’t think a boy who made it from the outskirts of the Chelyabinsk region would risk everything by doing such a thing.
