In the past people have been killed or threw to jail for criticizing Putin... It's not far fetch at all to believe this is a set up.

I hope for Artemi that he doesn't go to Russia anymore.

I’ve never been a fan of Nazarov, but if this really happened, this wouldn’t look good for Panarin. It’s quite pathetic though to hide behind the support of an opposition politician, but apparently it’s the best way to save face now for Panarin (if the allegations are true of course).

I am surprised that the original article hasn’t been translated yet. The alleged act of violence occurred in the EU (Riga, Latvia), not Russia. Local police, supposedly, was on site, so the records should be easily checked, I presume.
What was posted pages back was that Nazarov said they were at a Radisson in Riga, Panarin beat up some girl, the police were called, influential people vouched for Panarin and a €40K payment was arranged to keep it off the books. Is there more out there than that?

I am russian though and I see lots of rather ignorant(not your fault) comments about how Panarin is now in danger and will be jailed and posioned in Russia.

I’m Russian too and you’re naive if you think it’s not. Putin is scared about recent developments in Russia similar to what’s been going on in Belarus since early summer.

And btw, your list of political opposition that have been persecuted by Putin’s administration is RIDICULOUSLY short.

You're not a kid anymore and I'm not defending him if he did it. But there has to be a difference between him doing it last year and 10 years ago, no?

No more than Harvey Weinstein/Jeff Epstein etc. preying on young girls 10 years ago.

This is thrown in by Nazarov at the end of the article:

"So if only once. But there was also theft from the pockets of his own teammates in the children's team. And he himself later talked about it. And the willingness to raise a hand to the weak. And provocations - albeit verbal - of recent years in his social networks."

So he steals from his teammates, beats up women, and...speaks badly of Putin.

Not really. First of all, one incident as shitty as it is, is not the same thing as systemic rape. Second, maybe not from a US legal side of things but from a moral side of things there's a HUGE difference between 19/20 and like 50/60.

Yeah, I don't understand why people think if you got away with something for years the punishment should be less than if you get caught right away.

Until the "victim" steps forward and we learn more about the incident I'm inclined to believe Artemi. But if he did it, he needs to be held accountable like anyone else.

I think it was Panarin that stole Miller's puck.

Anyone recall ex-Ranger Roman Lyshenko (sp?)? I know its way different circumstances but I immediately thought of him.

Yes. Almost immediately after reading Brooks' first tweet. Good player. Sad story. I remember hearing in some circles around the league that he had troubles outside the rink. Potentially mob related. Of course, that was speculation. Undiagnosed depression and substance abuse I think were officially reported. Hard to remember everything though. Has it been so long?

This is the gist, pretty much. Nazarov also claimed that Mikhail Anisin, Panarin’s teammate at the time, was also in the hotel’s bar and helped Artemy to get back to his room after the incident. It would be interesting to get Anisin’s opinion on this allegation.

Yes, July 2003, so nearly 18 years ago. I believe depression played a role.
