Sure hope the team has a hidden gear we aren’t seeing because the Oilers were very pedestrian during the regular season.
Last year they had 104 pts and were cup favorites. This year they had 101 and are pedestrian??? They were the best team in the league for months this season.

They've been saving themselves for the cup run, 1/2 the team has been resting for the last month!

For another factor that may help the Kings: the PP has improved since the talented right-shot addition of Kuzmenko at the deadline. It's not tops in the league or anything, but it shouldn't be as dreadful as it has been in the past.

What months were those? In basically every statistical category they are worse than last year.

HF hates the Oilers. What do you expect?

They seem pretty consistent, even with Edmonton taking time off to rest towards the end of the season:

23/24
CF% - 3rd
xGF% - 1st
HDCF% - 1st

24/25
CF% - 4th
xGF% - 3rd
HDCF% - 1st

The stats that they are worse in are pretty luck-based:

23/24
Power Play % - 4th
Shooting % - 15th
PDO - 17th

24/25
Power Play % - 11th
Shooting % - 27th
PDO - 28th

I’m not sure I buy the argument that Edmonton is appreciably worse than last year outside of losing Ekholm (which is significant) and their goaltending.

The Kings have only lost five regulation games at home and get the home ice advantage. Oilers are facing a lot of question marks when it comes to health and still have Skinner in the net with no defence to speak of.

The Kings win in 5 games. Hard to think a team will be able to beat another four series in a row, that is just too much to ask for.

What is the record in the 16 team playoffs for the same two teams meeting in the same round with this being 4th in a row?

After the the kings are out in 4 or 5 games, the question asked by nhl analysts will be..
"Did the kings over achieve during the regular season?"

If the Kings lose I'm waiting for the haters to say the Oil had a freebie in rd1 again

If McDavid and Drai are actually 100% healthy and not just healthy enough to play they will be a tough out for the Kings

I want to believe but McDraivid can singlehandedly win a series on the PP or otherwise. Kings have a huge upgrade in goal this year so that might be the secret of the sauce this year.
