I find LA’s sports infrastructure fascinating. IMO it’s how a 4-sport city does it right. They have the Dodgers, Lakers, and Kings right downtown (Dodgers are close enough to downtown anyway), the Clippers, Rams, and Chargers not too far in Inglewood, with the Ducks and Angels out east in Anaheim. How has the Clippers move been received by the city and fans? Intuit Dome looks incredible.

I know space is a huge issue but I think it’s a joke that two football teams named after New York play in the New Jersey Meadowlands. At least Sofi Stadium is still in Los Angeles.

Trying to predict what the Oilers will do or play is quite frankly a pointless exercise. Enjoy the rollercoaster with the highs and the lows.

I'd actually like to see a deepdive on the stats on this. Avs have a similar problem. A lot of times, carrying the play doesn't even result in powerplay advantages.

I wonder if the optimal way to play is to concede chances that you can control, have good goaltending, and play counterattack hockey.

Definitely interesting thing to discuss.

And I completely agree on the power play advantages comment. Carrying the play does not really impact that. The games are managed away from that in the other direction to keep them closer. Especially if you have a dangerous power play.

Not sure it's the optimal way to play all the time but it may be the optimal way to play against a stronger team? Or perhaps a more offensively orientated team?

The Oilers this year were an expected goals for Goliath and an actual goals scored David. It kind of tapered off after the 4 Nations break and the injuries hit. The team didn't produce nearly as many chances.

I kind of figure the Oilers in this years playoffs as a Pandora's box.

They've had their typical slow start.
They've had their typical resurgence where they dominate the league.
But they haven't really faced a dip in play on the back half of the season like this year. A dip that started before the injuries.

I have no idea how hurt they are or if they're able to bring their play together after being so disjointed the last couple of months. If they do I think they win.. if they don't, I think L.A is strong enough to take us this year.

McDavid has 36 pts in 18 games in the last 3 series. Drai has 17 goals/30 pts in those 18 games. What exactly is LA going to do differently???...Kuemper lol.

The Oilers have beaten them not once, not twice but 3 times in a row. They know exactly what it takes to beat LA.....LA doesn't know anything. What game plan are they going to utilize? Not only have they not figured it out they've gotten worse...losing in 7, 6 and 5.. The only thing they know well is how to shake hands!!

I know guys inside the org. Reg season didn't mean squat, the group is determined after last year. Just wait and see.......

It's boring from a hockey fan perspective.

As a Sharks fan, a part of me does enjoy seeing the Kings stuck in this Dormammu-esque timeloop hell they can't escape. Karma for 2014.

Draisaitl, I’ve come to bargain.png

Can't they both lose?

I mean they can kill each other and lose in the next round

Like when the Kings beat the Blues in 2013. Yay we won! Oh shit we have no one left to put on the ice

OH! I have one bright side to this matchup!

With 1-8 format, the Oilers would've played the Stars, and the Kings would've played the Avalanche.

As annoying as this is for the 4th time, I kinda feel like both teams would rather this first round matchup over the alternative.

Have two of these and you will find yourself awake. And happy too.

That's what I do, but they're only 473ml down here. 160mg of caffeine per can. Sometimes I go for the Bang brand because they're 300mg of caffeine per can. I don't really like them much but I drink them anyway. Sometimes I go for coffee instead, but I don't actually like coffee either. I brew it really strong and just slam it down black without enjoying it. It's nice and effective though.

Have you ever thought of putting the can into your coffee and having a 2 for 1 power play? There’s this really good brand, I love but I don’t buy it because I can just crush Celsius before the gym. Try Wild Tiger energy drink. It’s super good and read the comments on Amazon. It will give you the manly urge to hit an inanimate object.

I'm a woman, so what will it do to me then? :sarcasm:

Stars are just as injured as the oilers. I would have proffered that. Stars also would leave oilers less injured than kings will if they moved on

Rocky wins over Drago by flash knockout in game 3. Sorry, confusing Rocky IV with Kings-Oilers IV. Kings win by flash knockout in game 3 then...or whatever. At least Rocky had some different opponents I-IV.

Just for added measure, the movie Groundhog Day was only two hours - not four years.

Rocky fighting Creed four times after getting knocked out the first three would have been something

There are more people living in the SoCal metropolis than in all of Canada. It’s an enormous mass of people.

The Dormamu reference in and of itself was fantastic, but this meme pushed it over the top. Well done. I just about sprayed coffee out of my nose onto my monitor.

What am i missing here , why are the kings favorite? The oilers always have some dogmeat teams and McDrai just go Super Saiyan what's the difference this year?
