McDavid is confident most of the injured players will return for Game 1 of the Western Conference First Round against the Los Angeles Kings. The playoffs begin Saturday.

“I don’t like the theory that people are counting us out,” McDavid said Tuesday. “We’re a great team here. We can bump and bruise any Kings player that we choose. We’re a dangerous team like that when we’re edging and gooning. I think you’ll see that over the next little while and we’re looking forward to showing that, be it Kuemper, Doughty or Byfield, heck why not knock all three?”
No way Connor really said this.

Basically none of this post has been true since we fired Woodcroft. They got to the Cup final last year with strong defensive systems and a historically good PK, which was directly related to goaltending. They would have beaten VGK in 2023 with a better goalie, they nearly lost to VAN last year because of goaltending

Couldn't care less about goaltending? In the playoffs? Shouldn't expect your goalie to have a .900 save percentage?
If they cared, then they would have invested in goaltending.
And we all knew that Campbell was a tire fire before they signed him.

So yes,
Edmonton couldn't possibly care less about goaltending. Both of their goalies are back up goalies on most teams.

Edmonton is 100% all in on winning via scoring tons of goals, which they did a pretty horrid job of this year.

It's not fair to either Picard or Stewart to hope for 0.90 sav, let alone expect it.

That would be like hoping for Derek Ryan to score a game winning goal. It's not why he's here.

To add a little more data:

2022
EDM 38.6% (7 for 19)
LA 12.5% (3 for 24)

2023
EDM 56.3% (9 for 16)
LA 33.3% (7 for 21)

So, it hasn't been close in all three matchups. I don't see that changing, but if LA can at least get back to the lopsided 2022 percentages (instead of the really lopsided 2024 percentages), they might be able to push it to a Game 7 again (and at least have home ice this time).

The best PP in the NHL this year was Winnipeg at 29.4%.

Just get the Oilers down to that and maybe we can have a competitive series.

For context Oiler's PP in the regular season:
21-22 26%
22-23 32.4%
23-24 26.3%
24-25 23.9%

I voted Oilers in 4 cuz of the math.

2021-22 - 7 Games
2022-23 - 6 Games
2023-24 - 5 Games
2024-25 - ????

I'm expecting the Kings to win this year. But haha tha 7-6-5-4 would be kinda funny.

At least they wont be able to do it in 3 next year, unless Mcjesus goes full god mode.

Well sure, I agree, management clearly doesn't think it's an issue - but they an incompetent idiots who haven't been able to win a cup with two of the best players of the generation. I'm saying that WE THE FANS are concerned about goaltending - and the Oilers should be too if

I know recency bias is widely active in how people are predicting this series, but Edmonton still have to be the favorites here. They have the same team as last year.

McDavid and Draisaitl have produced at astronomical levels multiple playoffs years in a row now. I don't see why it would stop this year when they are still in their prime. Plus, any team that gets that close to winning the Cup, and keep their core, will be pumped to get it the second time around.

I have to take the Oilers in 6. I was tempted to put them in seven games because the Kings are better this year, but if it goes to Los Angeles for a game seven, I'm not sure Edmonton win.

This is proof why the current format is a failure. The NHL's argument was that this would create rivalries. Kings and Oilers will be facing in the playoffs for the 4th straight year, yet their is no genuine rivalry. Kings still have a greater rivalry with the Sharks and they haven't met in the playoffs since 2016. Maple Leafs and Sens still have one of the best rivalries in the league and this year will be the first time they meet in the playoffs since 2004

Rivalries develop organically. You can't force them to happen.

exactly, i dont give a shit about the kings, never have, never will.

Even if the kings win i wont care.

I only care that I don't want to see the same boring black/white jerseys for 4-7 games. They are a boring team. I'll never consider them rivals.

Playing the kings has been played out but beating Calgary and Vancouver in the second round has been some of the fondest hockey memories of my life.

Habs and Bruins barely meet in the playoffs yet have one of the best rivalries in the world.
They can not face each other in the playoffs for decades, but when they do the temperature immediately rises to 100.

Geography plays a huge role. Let's say the Kings and Oilers aren't exactly close.

Taking the Kings in 6 here. Obviously the Oilers have McDrai but they're also missing Ekblad and Skinner is streaky. I just think the Kings finally slay their demon.
