When looking at possible landing spots for Patty Kane from a purely hockey perspective I don't see another team that should be as motivated to land the winger as Carolina.

They have great forward depth, a great blueline, strong goaltending when healthy, and are very solid structurally. They have the young assets with plenty of good prospects and a surplus of draft picks over the next couple years. They have some cap space to use with Pacioretty and Gardiner on LTIR.

If there's one weakness for the Canes it is definitely their goalscoring. They are 25th in the NHL in GF/G. Their PP is 30th ranked in efficiency. Another consistent top line producer would really put them in the top tier of contenders and give them a great shot at reaching the ECF.

So what would it take for Kane at 50% retained?

It’s not a terrible offer, just not a great one either.

the 1st will be late, and while those prospects are decent, there really isn’t a piece Of gold in there that would make anyone excited.

not bad, but very ho-hum. So no.

Pacioretty will be off LTIR by Mid Dec - January, so you can't count his LTIR space as available.

Canes can't afford Kane at 50% without other moves to reduce cap.

Wouldn’t bother me personally. Would love gunler as the prospect. But it’s all up to Kane if and where he wants to go.

Since when?

Good question. I haven't heard them connected there. But i could definitely see where they might have some interest. I can definitely see the potential "fit" there.

Heard more about them linked to JT Miller last year really.

It's not bad but the Canes really need a 2c more than Kane unless they acquire Kane and move Necas to 2c.

Their other problem is they're kinda soft for the playoffs and Kane doesn't help there either.

Conflicted. Kane’s an imperfect solution. He would bring elite skill to the lineup and that’s the fundamental question with Carolina’s group. However, a Top 6 that features upwards of 5 of Aho, Teravainen, Jarvis, Necas and Kane would easily get pushed to the perimeter 5v5.

Beggars can’t be choosers, though. The Canes have tried and failed to acquire that piece in recent years (rumors of pursuit of Laine, Eichel and Tkachuk). The alternative might be coming away empty handed.

Canes aren’t big rental chasers. 0 chance we land Kane unless its some Taylor Hall type trade scenario.

really could use another shooter or a 2C as mentioned.
Not to derail the Kane portion of the thread, but the one player who makes the most sense is Couture if SJ goes full rebuild. The Canes could fit him after this year by either signing Staal to a cheap deal or letting him try UFA and/or letting Pacioretty move on. So if they are looking to fit in an extra $4M, Couture at 50% is a better option than Kane.

Canes let Trocheck walk thinking KK can handle the 2C work load. It has not worked out and has caused ripple effects to their winning %.

No doubt in my mind they will look to improve at center. They would like to add Kane but they need a center if they want to be cup contenders. Avs are in the same boat. Centers are going to return a lot due to supply and demand this season

The Canes should be going after Josh Anderson

Canes need a center IMO.
