This is dumb.

"Hey, look, I'm an activist and I'm gonna prove to the world that mass fishing is wrong by buying a lot of lobster and releasing it so that big, bad companies can profit of it TWICE !!"

They aren't activists, this is part of Buddhist beliefs in Karma etc.

good on the Buddhist Monks...I had a bird trapped in my chimney and was able to catch it and release it, felt wonderful...I am leaning towards being a Buddhist.

Yeah it's basically about people seeing or hearing about this story and being moved by it in some way. So even though short-term it will cause a greater amount of harm with the monks simply thinking about this single group of lobsters and not the lobster industry, they wish that in the long run with these acts they are able to help decrease the lobster sales among other things while promoting compassion towards all beings.

A nice and optimistic thought, but obviously they could've thought this through more and probably figured out a better act to show their sentiment.

Poor lobsters going to be attacked by sea predators are die a more painful death than if they were eaten by humans. It's likely they "lost" some of their natural survival instincts, and they are completely delocalized.

Also, if these lobsters aren't killed before they get to hunt, they will cause suffering amongst things like crabs, clamps, some fishes, etc because that's what they eat! Did the monks think about them?

Their logic is flawed.

I haven't read any other comments in this thread, but even as a vegan, this is stupid.

All this does is funnel more profits into the industry and create more demand for the product. They're going to go out and catch 700 pounds of lobsters now to replace the 600 they sold.
