Owen Power was one of a trio of outstanding draft prospects who played for the University of Michigan this season. He put up three goals and 13 assists for 16 points in 26 games this season. Power was named to the Big Ten All-Rookie Team as well as the conference’s Second All-Star Team. Unfortunately, Power and his Michigan teammates were unable to participate in the NCAA Frozen Four tournament due to an outbreak of COVID-19. It was a disappointing end to what was a promising season for the freshmen-laden team.

Power spent the previous two seasons with the Chicago Steel in the USHL, after being drafted seventh overall in the USHL Futures Draft. In 2019-20 he put up 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points in 48 games before the season was shut down due to the pandemic. Power led the league in defence scoring, was named defenceman of the year, and was on the first all-star team. In 2018-19, he put 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points in 52 games. He also added two points in 11 playoff games. Power was named to the USHL All-Rookie Team.

If he doesn't wear 69 I'll be disappointed

Obvious pick, I hope he doesn't force himself to another team. Wish it was Eklund but I'm sure he will be a good one.

Should be good. He will probably take a couple years to figure it out, just like every other defenceman, however he should be a serviceable contributor to the team for years to come.

Nice foundation forming with Power, Dahlin, Samuelsson, UPL, Quinn, Cozens, Mittlestadt and Olofsson.

Another pick coming and the Reinhart and Eichel hauls. Gonna be a long year of development but the potential window is shaping up nice. Once Okposo comes off the books our cap situation will be solid to add to this foundation

Need to get some D in FA

Make Power earn his place on the team in camp. Or else, no harm in him spending a year in Rochester. Don't want our depth to be so low that he has to play, regardless as to whether or not he earns a place

He's going back to college, why in the world would he go to Rochester?

Makes way more sense for him to be a superstar and play for a championship in college than struggle on the 3rd pair for one of the worst teams in the NHL (which we will be this upcoming year, with or without him). Developmentally it’s absolutely the right move for him to spend an additional year in school.
