Feels a little expensive, but I know it isn't in the end. He's just proven so much less than Ras for only being 30 months younger, so seeing him get $2.5m per year less than him already is a little jarring. He's got a lot more work to do on his game, but it's a lot of the same work that Ras was able to do from 20-23, especially under Donnie.

Happy to have the big man locked in til 2030 though. Seven years was to make sure his and Dahlin's contracts don't expire simultaneously.

Thats two and a half years. Thats quite a long period of time when we're talking about development of a young player in pro sports.

I'm honestly not concerned in the slightest considering our upward trajectory as a team and him as a player. I'd be completely shocked if he was stagnant or regressed. This contract will be right at market value or a steal in a few years.

Agreed, per the next sentence in my post. Just saying that while that OP's work may be likely, it still needs to be done unlike Ras who could stop developing right now and still be a top 10 D.

With Sammy out I think Power belongs paired with Dahlin. Power needs to feel how it is to consistently boss it up out there. Everyone else pretty much is what they are. And you gotta bring up Ryan Johnson. Bryson is hopeless.

Kevyn Adams- "We want players who want to be here"

Owen Power- You're going to give me almost 9 million dollars when I don't know how to play defense and will never put my body on anyone?

Of course I want to be here really bad.

His shooting has definitely improved from last year, definitely has more zip on it. I'm more interested in him developing a stronger defensive presence, seeing him get out muscled by dudes 5 inches shorter than him where it looks like he's putting in zero effort is more concerning to me. He needs to learn how to impose himself physically, he's still a baby so he has time but he needs to learn to use his size more effectively if he's going to be a top defenseman for us.

7. Owen Power signed a behemoth deal before the season started, a deal that warranted some sticker shock over the massive cap hit. The thought process was clear: Given his pedigree, what he showed as a rookie and with a rising cap on the horizon, it made sense to break the bank sooner rather than later.

At the time of signing, Power’s cap hit looked like a number he could grow into by Year 3. Early in the season, he looks like he’s already there before the contract even kicks in.

By Net Rating, Power has looked like a top-five defenseman to start this season, mostly thanks to his incredible ability to influence play in the right direction. The Sabres have dominated at five-on-five with Power on the ice, with 55 percent of the expected goals while outscoring teams 11-3. He doesn’t get the requisite power-play time to put up gaudy scoring totals, but he won’t need to if this is what he can do at five-on-five. He’s been a beast at both ends of the ice.

For some added flavor...

6. Matty Beniers has zero goals and three points in 10 games. He’s earned just 45 percent of the expected goals and has been outscored 10-2 at five-on-five, both of which are near team-worst marks. His Net Rating of minus-2 is the 17th-worst mark in the league, 11th if you exclude members of the San Jose Sharks. We need a phrase stronger than “sophomore slump,” because that’s one ugly start.

Agreed. BUT, the one thing I have noticed is that he's not getting blown up like he used to along the boards. He quite obviously hit the gym this offseason and gained some strength. He's not overwhelming opponents with strength yet, but it's coming.
Just quoting your post to add to the strength talk, he absolutely did not have the caliber of wrist shot he scored on last night at any point last year. That was a mans shot.
