With all the forwards the Sabres have, I doubt you see them go that route. Especially since they might be the lone team in the league doing it.

This is a unique situation as none of those teams have two 1OV D.

They'd still be playing 1D on the PP. Dahlin or Power would literally be playing up front, as Dahlin did when Housley was coach

With Skinner having 3 more years after this one, give Power a 3yrx$7 bridge deal, and then something like 8yrx$12 will fit nicely, assuming the kid develops and progresses like a 1st overall pick.

Really surprised he went with long term deal. I wanted to see a little more out of him before paying him over 8 mil but this is going to be a steal!

Smart move imo. He held his own in his first season, so screw it, dude will be legit. What else you gonna do? Wait it out and then overpay, cause you can’t let a #1 pick walk? Lock it in, hell yes.

Gonna be 28 when its up and get himself a second monster payday on a second long term deal.

Thank you for not bridging. With the cap going up and the team becoming more relevant…he’d be looking at Dahlin money in in a few years.

At the end of the day, its the right move. I really thought he was going bridge then get a HUGE payday after that.

I went into this offseason saying, If you can get Dahlin and Power signed to long term deals under 20 mil, I'll be happy. And what do you know? Good job KA!

Wow.

Good wow. I think this kid is headed to the moon.

I suspect we have no inkling of adding a big money top 4 D next offseason, we wont have the cap for that if we resign Mitts. (Wont be able to add a solid veteran goalie either). One of Clifton or Joker really needs to get their act together as Powers partner. Strbak is still a few years away from being that guy.

But yeah. All in on Power.

It is similar to other recent contracts where it may feel like an overpayment today but the hope is it will look like a steal in a season or two.

Edit...oops, my mind focused on the eight in the aav and I missed the seven years part.
