Recalled/Assigned: Owen Beck and Logan Mailloux recalled from the Laval Rocket (2-4-25)

Owen Beck scores two goals in a 3-2 loss
Also scored in the second game. I thought Mailloux was one of the more dangerous players in the tournament and easily could have scored 2-3 goals with a bit better finish. Both of our prospects stood out, but it must be remembered that this was a 3 on 3 competition with little intensity.

Just a follow up to my comments on the AHL All-Star game. Mailloux was one of the few defencemen who played in the game. In fact, one of the four teams, had no defencemen on their roster. And the lack of defencemen showed as there were multiple (unending) break-a-ways, 2 on 0s and, even 3 on 0s. Everyone, as one coach explained during a break, was trying to put on a show. It was in this environment where Mailloux was finally able to show his real potential: as a forward. He spent more time behind the opponents' net than his own. Mailloux has very poor first step quickness, but put him in a situation where he can be free flowing with his skating, where the puck comes to him in motion, he has NHL level skating. Couple that with his size, reach, elite hand skills, play making ability, excellent shot and offensive vision and you have a skilled NHL forward. And if Hughes and Co. can't see that: they are collectively blind.

I don't think he is as good as Plekanec.
At the same age Plekanec was close to a PPG in the AHL. Not the case for Beck.
Plek is the only drafted Hab in the last 20 years to hit 70 points in a season.
Quick edit- Koivu also had a 70+ point season since 2000. Plek is the only hab pick drafted after 2000 who had a 70+ point season. Sad

Check your stats at same age. At 20, Plekanec had 46 points in 77 AHL games. Beck at 20, has 27 points in 41 games. Beck is on little better ppg rate.
D+2

Plekanec: 66 pts in 74 games
Beck: 27 pts in 41 games

Plekanec was a 70 pts in his prime, no shame in Beck not reaching that level.
