Last season the Leafs won 50 games, the season before they won 55 games.

This year do you think they go over or under 50 wins?

Most people that have read my posts probably know where I stand, I have the over.

I think this roster as currently constructed has the best top 6 they have had opening a season.

I think the depth on the wing is better than it's been in 20 years as far as an opening night roster goes.

I think the defense is better than it's been in 20 years as far as an opening night roster goes.

I do have concerns about the 3rd line center spot.

And I do have a few concerns in net, I don't think Samsonov has fully established himself as a #1 goalie yet.

But overall as currently constructed I would take the over, in fact I have them winning the division and fairly comfortably at that.

When I look at what Tampa has lost over the last 2 years, and what Boston lost this year so far, I have Toronto winning the Atlantic at least as far as the regular season goes.

I think they can push 55 wins again.

They could go 82-0 next year and most fans wouldn't care.

The only thing anyone is interested in is if they can win 16 games in one postseason.

Hard to believe just a few short years ago I had such high hopes for this team. How did it ever get like this? Once again I feel like I've been put in a position where I have to cheer for them to lose.

It's the only way I see them moving forward towards winning.

Not one to disappoint their fans, the Leafs continue to do exactly that: lose. A team united in single purpose. That of flopping in the playoffs every year.

Apathy is already setting in among fans again.

Every year more and more people are jumping off the bandwagon. Soon enough only a few hardcore fans will remain who care. At this point there's nothing left to look forward to get excited about.

And if there is nothing to get excited about, there is nothing to care about.

It appears the question was to hard for you to understand.

NONE of what you wrote is relevant to my question

Over. They have some great regular season talent and this is the year win the OT games

I don’t their D is as good as last year when they had Muzzin.

Based on the talent they have right now and the upgrades to the top 6 and PP, they should easily win more than 50 games. However, I still think they need to upgrade their defence to win more than two rounds in the playoffs. They need that stud 1-2 dman or barring that at least two big 3-4 Don’t know how we do that with our cap situation. These may be acquired at the trade deadline if possible.

I think he understood the question perfectly and his point is that hardly anybody cares about how many regular season wins we get.

Our history is chalk full of regular season wins and playoff losses, has that made you happy? Will another year of the season bring you more happiness? Do you think Boston fans are happy with the way last season went for them?

For most of us, playoff wins are what matters. I hope that helps.

You’ll probably find you’ll get more of the brain dead ‘playoffs are all that matter’ posts than ones answering your question. Some feel it’s like a public service to post that as if it’s some super genius original thought.

IMO, they challenge for the Presidents Trophy and have 56 wins.

Playoff aren't all that matter, but they matter a helluva lot more than the regular season, to most of us anyway. I guess we're bemused at the people who care about the number of regular season wins we get as if that means much.

I am willing to sacrifice a few wins in the regular season if it means the roster will be better equipped for a deep playoff run.

How would losing better equip them?

Im the opposite, I think they are going to take the season more seriously which will better equip them for the playoffs.

I meant that even if we don't have as much offensive flare in the regular season and win a few less games as a result, it would be worth it if we have a grittier team that can get better results in the post season.

Would it surprise me if our new real GM Treliving in his first year outperforms our former fake GM's body of work over 5 years?

That is essentially what you're asking here. :wg:

Answer : Of course not, that is why I so adamantly have demanded change for years in the hopes it makes my Leafs better. So taking the over is a safe bet, but I still think BT is not done and would still like to reshape the Dcore even more. A lot can still happen like a Nylander trade that could change the current roster even more so its a bit early to be asking this question and would be better suited closer to training camp when we have a better idea of the final roster. IMO

I think we’re pretty much on the same page I just don’t think that will necessarily mean losses.

I’m also thinking(hoping) will see fewer of those no show Tuesday night games against the bottom feeders. That needs to be eliminated altogether, IMO.

Agreed, one thing I am sick of is losing 2-1 to Arizona, or blowing a 2-0 lead to the ducks.

Hell I don't even want 2-1 or 3-2 wins, even that's not good enough.

Teams like Arizona, the Ducks, or Montreal these are games you need to DOMINATE

I'm talking 5-1 6-0, 7-2

You need to DOMINATE the bottom feeders every single time.

When the Islanders first became a contender in the mid-70s, they won 42, 47, 48, and 51 games, but got no further than the semi-finals. They only hit 39 wins when they won their first Cup.

So that's my (internationally copyrighted) ridiculous answer.

If Matthews and Nylander sign extensions before the season: 48 wins.

If Matthews extends and Nylander doesn't before the season: 47 wins.

If Matthews doesn't extend but Nylander does before the season: 52 wins.

If neither Matthews nor Nylander sign extensions before the season: 58 wins.
