For the people who have been following this chase for the last 4-5 seasons and it looked like such a long shot but still a possibility, nothing cooler than this has happened in hockey.

Ovechkin is the GOAT

The way he’s doing this in one year and not just ‘compiling” kills arguments against his GOATness

Maybe all time goal scorer, but barely cracks Top 10 GOAT as a player.

The one-timer only became a thing until Oates became the coach. He wanted to put him on the right wing to spark him, presumably and I think, it led to a power-play whereby his assignment as a left-circle power-play turret. Of course, based on recent experience, this wasn't his end-all-be-all.

Oates played with Hull when he had his 86 goal season. It's probably reasonable to assume he taught Ovechkin some of Hull's tricks.

ovi a little choked up in his locker room speech to his team. i like the thanks he gives to everyone.

also wonder how strome thinks, given he was pretty much signed to try and give ovi another backstrom type player

Back then nobody thought it was possible

wow. Obviously I am aware that Milbury is an idiot, but this is special. He went Full Milbury.

- he got highsticked in the mouth
- he was working along the boards and got pushed off the puck
- a winger shifting off whike a goal is scored?? thats gotta happen every night.
- "he just stands there! Someone should figure this out!" funny, for haters thats changed to, "he just stands there! Someone should figure id out!" but with a totally different meaning, as in, "please stop him from scoring... he just stands there!"

I’d like to also bring attention to how much fun Ovechkin has had on and off the ice ever since he came into the league.

This guy is one of those dudes you’d love to hang out with and that cannot be said of all (or even most) great hockey players.

Ovechkin is the type of dude that must just be a blast to do just about anything with.

Played over 165 minutes in those final 8 games with 14 shots on net.

Gretzky was done by then.

He only had 3 goals in his final 40 career games.

Most of Gretzky's goals were in 80's before turning Wayne 30. His goals numbers went down drastically in 90's after turning 30.
