Ovechkin Milestone Thread - Countdown to 894

Also unassisted is ranked #9. I wonder how many secondary assists truly were OVs own assists (through primary assistant), too bad it is not tracked.

Cool stats, interesting that *stroms have different A1/A2 ratios.
Would be nice to include num of games where they both played (or shared mins on ice) to get a sense of rate.
Sorry, I don't have premium access to naturalstattrick.com )

A lot, about 100, IMO. This season 4-5 already.

That just means Caps' PP is not currently working. On PP, Backstrom's job was to throw the puck back to Carlson/Green, who then would very quickly pass to OV in the left circle, and that's how Backstrom got a lot of A2, and Carlson/Green got a huge number of A1 for a defenseman.

Also Carlson got so many primaries by passing back to Ovechkin immediately after recieving Ovechkin's pass.

[/TABLE]

ugh so many dudes on that list that played opposite Ovi for so long who had zero finish to their game. If Poti, Brouwer, Chimera, or Mojo could hit the broad side of a barn, Ovi would have 100 more assists on his career. His playmaking has always been way underrated due to having stonehanded crosseyed guys receiving many of his best passes.

And what matters is how many goals MORE than the other team you score.

A guy can score 100 goals and if it leads to 101 against they are still a loser.

You guys want to ignore what a black hole of defense he is.

The worst defensive player I have seen in my lifetime.
I'm beginning to think this is satire. Is this satire?

Ovechkin, as agreed by every single professional player including #99 (will you actually try to convince us that YOU know better than Wayne?) has been a top 5 most valuable player in the league for the tenure of his career.

Your disdain for him goes way past hockey. You just won't come out and say it.

The hockey universe holds loves him. You had a very particular obsession with dismantling reality to prove a point- much like saying to all those around you the sky is green, and no matter how many people say it is blue, can be proved to be blue, you will say the sky is green and it has wronged you.

There is no doubt, he's been one of the best in terms of availability during his career, I don't doubt that and his numbers here look accurate (I checked)....but not sure about the accuracy or completeness of the rest of the table....for example....where is Kessel? I think his career would be at 97.3%. Also, I'm pretty sure Jarvis is 100%, he played in 964 games in his career and they were all consecutive. Where is Yandle? He's around 95.2% and what about Larmer....he's over 98%
There was a comment near the end - the database I pulled this from only covers 1960 to 2020 (except Ovechkin, who I calculated manually).

(Also, it's only for players who played in at least 20 years. None of Larmer, Jarvis, Kessel and Yandle qualify).

I mean hes still a plus player, similar plus/minus as Malkin, higher than Patrick Kane, Stamkos, Giroux etc etc.
If you count power play goals hes been on the ice for about 350 more goals for than against, that competes with almost anyone.

Or he just actually sucks at defense and you’re in denial.

If it's only for the last 20 years, then why do we care about 1960-2000 (I guess that's just because of the database). Kessel and Yandle obviously played in the last 20 years (last couple or last few for each not included.....so not sure how their stats would come out.....but again, doesn't this make the list kind of irrelevant if you are missing people....sounds like you fixed or added missing data for Ovechkin but nobody else.

Ovi would be pushing 1100+ goals if he got to play with prime Jari Kurri and Paul Coffey, not to mention facing whoever 1980-88 Winnipeg and Vancouver were trotting out between the pipes 14 times a season.

Not disagreeing but OVI did have the benefit of playing in that old southeast Division and beating up on the Thrashers/Canes/Panthers and Lightening who were all awful back then. If you look at OVI's Goals by opponent. His best is 55 against the Thrashers/Jets Franchise, that is 6 years as Thrashers and 13 as Jets only playing Jets 2x a year. Had That team stayed in Atlanta he probably already has the record.

He didn't have the benefit of playing in that old southeast Division:
only 123 G in 203 GP =.606 GPG which is lower than GPG vs other divisions back then (.623).
Well he scored 30G in 25 games against The Thrashers

Just curious,

Did someone post something a while back about Ovis sticks coming from a place in Manitoba after the issues he had with CCM/Bauer??

A lot of people are forgetting what kind of a player Ovechkin was in his prime, a truly unique mix of skill, speed and power, he could single-handedly take over a game by hitting, dangling, shooting. In today’s NHL only McDavid could score goals like in this reel thanks to his skating and puck handling

His very first game, he trucks Klesla and scores two
