Ovechkin Milestone Thread - Countdown to 894

I missed this by a few days, but Ovechkin recently became the 9th player in NHL history to reach 1,400 primary points (RS and PO combined):

Goal in four straight games. If he gets another point it'll be four consecutive multi point games as well, possibly a record for 39-year-olds?

The Caps are really clicking, who would've thought after last season. It's quite different when the team is this competitive compared to San alternate scenario where a veteran star is limping towards a looming record with nothing else going for the team.

Only last week I guessed Ovi would score 37-40 goals and narrowly fall short of the record this season but this is looking pretty pretty good right now. Could he get one more 50 goal campaign? Additionally, Strome could get 90 points easy the way they've started.

I wish he could hit 50. This would give him the most 50 goal seasons. He would have had the record by himself if it weren’t for Covid. I think he ended up with 48 goals while still having 11 or 12 games left when the league decided to end the regular season.

Nothing is stopping this man.

Can't wait for him to score goal #888, leave the ice, exit the game, and retire the next day.

No but seriously, I remember a lot of people saying 5-6 years ago that he had like a 10% chance to pass Gretzky. The guy will easily pass him... the question is if he'll be able to reach the insane 1000-goal mark.

A lot of people are forgetting what kind of a player Ovechkin was in his prime, a truly unique mix of skill, speed and power, he could single-handedly take over a game by hitting, dangling, shooting. In today’s NHL only McDavid could score goals like in this reel thanks to his skating and puck handling

Yeah retro-ovechkin was something else. I remember tuning on the sports news each morning after a Capitals game just to see the highlights from Ovechkin, (which were spectacular everytime).

I think Ovechkins 07-08 season is second to McDavid's 22-23 in terms of the best MVP Season post lockout
