You do know the owner, Ted Leonsis, puts Ovechkin above the team. Leonsis values mass marketing far more than overall team success. OV even at age 38, still sells the team better than anyone else on the roster.

Please give tangible examples of how all they care about is the record besides "he gets lots of PP time" which has been a thing for literally the last 12-15 years and didn't just start becoming a thing once he hit 800 and 895 became plausible.

Again, hiring a completely unproven AHL coach and trading away key players at the deadline two years in a row does not suggest that they are putting 895 over everything. They are clearly and correctly rebuilding around Ovechkin in real time.

Caps are rebuilding and are also way ahead of where people tought they would be with their playoff spot this year.

Ovi is still a top forward on the team with 0,82 PPG tied for 1st on the team with Strome. He is playing normal minutes with an average of 19 minutes.

The third best ppg forward this season was Mantha at 0,61 ppg (Which they traded away). Then you have Pacioretty at 0,49 ppg, Oshie 0,48 ppg, Wilson and Milano at 0,47 ppg, Lapierre 0,43 PPG, McMichael 0,41 ppg and Kuznetsov 0,40 ppg (Traded away).

Who of these guys are really producing enough to be considered a better scoring threat than Ovi on the PP?

Ovechkin isnt playing most of the PP because Caps are trying to get him the record. He plays most of it as he is the best option by far.

This year they traded Mantha, Kuznetsov and Edmundson. Last year they traded Orlov, Eller, Hathaway and Johansson. Both years they where in the playoff race and made it this year despite the trades.

If Ovi's goalscoring was the main objective they wouldnt trade away those guys.

Sooooo... If they added at the deadline to try and squeeze in when a clear rebuild is needed what would that be called? Getting a new Backstrom to feed Ovie?

Yet, when they trade pieces away to properly rebuild, it's called making sure Ovie is the only option to put out there for a full 2 minute powerplay? Make it make sense pls.

Perhaps the proper answer would be, the caps really should be trading Ovie away to a contender? Not sure anyone would take on the cap hit, maybe some retention. But, how realistic is that? Same could and should be said for Crosby. Old, the team is floundering, get assets while you can. But again, what ownership in their right mind would ship either of them off? They're so iconic in their cities. I think you only do that if the player comes to you.

Well, they certainly are not a contending team, and truly shouldn't have even made the playoffs. What were they, -40 goal differential? Even the Sabres were a + goal differential, and they didn't even have a 60 point player.

The caps are in a difficult spot but it has nothing to do with Ovi. It has everything to do with being a top 8 team in the league almost every season for the last 20 years and missing out on the high quality prospects needed to build a team around.

Leonard might be their first pick to actually pan out as a top line forward in... how many years?

It sounds more like you just hate Ovechkin and thus are trying to create an argument where you can never be wrong. If they have a loaded roster, it's because they only care about the record, if they have a roster of young developing players it's because they want Ovechkin to get all the chances despite the fact that they're literally doing what they are supposed to be - turning over the roster to the next generation.

Personally, I will take a break from Caps after OV retires.
I think from business standpoint it is no-brainer to keep OV for 2 more years and keep OV and his fans like me happy.
